Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Another Honest Days Work On The Hill. The garden weeds are in trouble when me and Suzie get on the mission of a good lookin garden. Plenty to do yet, but like a wild fire it's under control. Gonna till the squash garden tomorrow. Took the fence off it to keep the chooks out, and gonna see if the flock has better places to go.

Nice pic WCC, thanks for sharing it!

Congrats on the blues TO....she sure does look like mom and dad....worth being proud for sure! Really nice pic of mom and the babies too!

I just PM'd you to answer your earlier question! LOL....
Cage cups are either small cans (think 7 oz ) or plastic cups. However, I will have to look at plastic cups next time at Wal Mart to get you the size I get.

There are specific poultry transport cages that you can either purchase ahead of time. Usually there are vendors at the shows that sell them right there. They are usually a good price at the shows. If you decide to take a look at them on the net, really research prices since some online stores are very pricey.
However, I use a combo of what I have on hand. I use carriers, like Veri-Kennels and smaller dog crates.

For my home cages, back in Cali, I used drop pens or drop cages, which I made myself. Here in Wis, I have an extra row of small poultry/rabbit cages that I stick the birds in after I've washed them.

O.M.G. ....If you can go...GO to Cross Roads. It will be the best show you will ever get a chance to go to! It is the Nationals....very awesome! There will be thousands of birds. I so wish I could go!!!!

Evening to all

long day today, we did some landscaping at one of the duplexes we take care of and it took all day. Looks very nice now- some of the trees were dying and they couldn't be pruned anymore so we replaced them and fixed up the beds as well.

Got my car back this afternoon and it runs great

Neighbor came over tonight when we got home- he found Japanese beatles on his fruit trees and looked at ours and found them on our trees too. We sprayed ours with liquid Sevin and that started knocking them off- they are in our raspberry patch as well

So do chickens eat the beatles or not?

Guess I will keep it short tonight- have a good one!

H&R, yes, my chickens absolutely love Jap beetles. Not the ones treated with Sevin, though.

I never had them in my raspberries, thankfully, but they really love to destroy my roses, plums & cherry trees for some reason. I have an ornamental plum(thundercloud, I think?) that they have all but murdered. The poor tree is still hanging on, but those beetles sure do a number on it every year. We're probably going to have to replace it next year.

As for the beetles, I use a Jap beetle trap. They work great & are completely poison-free. I have included a link to a good one on Jung's website. I wouldn't recommend the one made by Safer, because the receptacle is a plastic bag, which the beetles just chew through & escape from, plus you would have to keep buying new bags. Bought one & found out the hard way. The molded plastic ones work much better & can be reused year after year (I've had mine for 5 years now), you just have to buy the attractant. I have mine hanging in the run so if the chickens don't get them, the trap will. We really need a smiley face with horns around here...........

Just one more quick note before bed. Dottie is doing much better.

Thank you all for all the positive thoughts!
She snuck out of the "isolation ward" when I was refilling the rabbit hoppers and made a beeline for the dust bathing area, which she spent at least 20 minutes in. She looked so relaxed & comfortable, so I left her there. Later, she was out in the yard pecking at the grass with the rest of the gals, and at bedtime, she was even able to jump way up onto the roost. Her legs still look like they are a little spread apart, but other than that, you'd never be able to tell there was something wrong with her a few days ago.
Thank you all again for the positive reinforcement and suggestions. I really appreciate all of your help.

Love all the new pics guys, congrats on the blues TO.

Anyone know what kind of wax to use to patch a crack in a hatching egg? I recall Sweetfolly mentioning that technique. Don't wanna lose a Marans egg if I can help it.
