Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Good morning!
Hahahahaha about the pasties.

If DH's parents didn't live on the farm I think I would do that. But nobody needs to see all of this, so I guess I'll have to keep my clothes on

I would love the recipe though Delisha, and thanks to all of you who made some suggestions. I can't wait to try them. Oh and I will get the recipe for the corn relish on here soon.
Chicks are doing great and growing like weeds! They are a week old now. I can't believe how fast they grow.
Sunny here today- thank goodness. Make me have some ambition.
Have a great day all!
Nice picture Judge..

Pasties

1 lb. ground beef
1 onion, fine diced
1 stalk fine chopped celery
1 c. small cubed potatoes (end of baby finger size)
2 c. diced carrots
1/2 cup frozen peas and don't cook
1/2 t. garlic powder
1 t. Italian seasoning
Salt and pepper, to taste
Homemade pie crust or cheat and buy store-bought (enough for 4 crusts)
1 egg white, beaten
1/4 T. butter or margarine
1/4 c. flour
2 c. beef stock, broth or bullion cubes
2 t. Worcestershire sauce
1 t. Italian seasoning

1. In a large skillet, cook ground beef, celery and onion for 5 minutes. Stir in carrots and cook for 5 minutes, add potatoes. Stir in seasonings. Cook until potatoes are fork tender, about 10 minutes. Cool. Add frozen peas
2. Cut each piece of dough into fourths and roll into a circle. Place about 1/3 c. beef filling into the center of each dough circle. Fold over, seal and roll edges.
3. Brush each pasty with beaten egg white and bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes, until golden and pie crust is fully cooked.
4. While pasties cook, melt butter or margarine in a small saucepan. Whisk in flour and cook 2 minutes. Whisk in beef stock, bring to a slow boil and boil until thickened. Stir in Worcestershire sauce and Italian seasoning.
5. Serve pasties with gravy on the side for dipping or poured on top. We also use ketchup

Good morning to all! Yes JJ I am still tired too. I could not believe how much standing in that position takes out of a body! (well that and I AM getting old!)
So last night I talked with the kids when they got home and instructed them on how to eat the "***** burning" chili I made, got on BYC to give my report and BAM! The site went down at 7:29!!!
barnie.gif
I had 2 pages yet to read from the day so I couldnt even finish them! I kept coming back for the rest of the time I was up but every time there was the little chick with "the sky is falling" message! Dont they know that we NEED BYC in the evenings? why dont they do their updates way late--like 2 in the morning? Oh yeah...then CInd wouldnt be able to read up!

So anyhow...I cant get the pictures to my computer from my phone so I will have to wait until DS gets out of bed so I can send them to his phone and he can send them to my computer. My other phone could send email but not this one? We did only 15 meaties...that is what was left. So I had done up 4 beforehand and two were DOA over the growing time. We got there about 10:45 and worked pretty steady until 2:00 or so. Not too much time spent and (I hate to say it)--quite enjoyable! That was because JJ did the actuall killing part and it is on the other side of the wall so we didnt have to see it. We being Peggy and I. Terry and Jerry--some of you met them 2 years ago at the bash--helped us get started. The worst part was the clean-up for sure! But we got is all spic and span and I spoke to Terry this morning ans she said it was FINE! (So we did good JJ!)
Then we came over to my place and had some ***** burning chili--as previously mentioned, and marinated mozz/tomato salad. JJ brought the most delicious coffee/mocha brownies. (even GF

) Gee--I think I will have one now!...MMMM --that's better! I do need this recipe BTW! I had to share with the kids unfortunately...

Now the chickens are resting peacefully in the tub in the yard and I have to find some bags big enough to freeze them in! We had such a nice time and I SO thank you JJ (and Peggy) for all your help! I think I am all talked out for about a week...can you imagine that?

On another note...thanks for the pasty recipe Deli! I think I might make them for dinner tonight (or tomorrow) for DH...he LOVES them! I think they have way too much dough for the filling...but that's just me. Maybe it is because the one I had years ago had too thick of dough? I have some carrots and potatoes left over from the lamb roast DS made the other night so I can get that used up too! Now to find a suitable GF pie crust...

I copied the BBQ sauce recipe too--sounded pretty yummy to me! Guess I better get out and clean off the driveway so the plow can come by and block us in again...critters are hungry too! Have a good one all!

ok, so I have been eating pasties most of my life, referring to the edible kind (well maybe they are all edible,,hmm) anyway this is a "Yooper" food, living so close to the border they are available in the area. I have never liked any pasty without the one main ingredient missed in deli's recipe,,,you simply have to have either rutabaga or turnip or it really isn't a pasty!

here's a link,,,,

TO..glad you are OK and survived the butchering. Sounds like Peggy made it out of confinement.
Sounds like a nice batch of chickens..did you run into any more torn breasts?
I am moving these NYD chicks outside today. They are way to stinky and dusty in the house no matter how much I clean. It will keep me out of the incubator too.

Morning all! Love all the recipes. I remember when I lived in northern MN my friends family invited me over to make them. We made hundreds. One of the best family nights ever. I'm going to try to make them. Thanks for sharing.
OK...for those of you hatching chicks now....what are you doing with them in terms of...are the outside? I tried to move mine outside yesterday but when I checked on them at 1030pm...they were really cold. Obviously a 125wt lamp not enough. I stopped at coop bought a 250wt bulb. Went outside to set it up...and then changed my mind. The humidity in air is bone chillin'. So my chicks are still inside the guest room. So what are you all doing? I just can't bring myself up to risking them getting cold and dying....

The chicks I hatched on New Years are still in my basement but with out heat. We are still getting below zero at night here. Their next step will be into a brooder box in our insulated but unheated pole building. I'm sure I'll have to put heat on them again when they do move out, but I'm dragging my feet on putting them out there. The basement room they are in is our utility room, so just the furnace and lots of stuff in storage there. It's all getting dusty but I guess I'll just clean it all up in spring when everyone can be outside.

good noon, Annie went to town, so I am boss until she gets back home..

thanks Jim, for building us this neat guinea house..

OK , you gals just decide which corner you want to lay your eggs in,, meanwhile we will sit up here and watch for preds, and dogs and such..

when you gals have your corners picked out,, we will get together and see what happens..

...jimsayingyou'rewelcomeguineas...........

I moved them out to the broody coop. They have been in the basement with out heat for two weeks. It is 60 in the basement. I put a thermometer in the brooder room in the broody coop and it was 40 yesterday. They will be fine. I have a heater in there that I turned on that will kick on if it goes below 45. I will check on them through the day. They looked pretty happy and full of p... and vinegar when I left. I have not used that heater yet so I will need to keep an eye on it.

I am taking a coffee break and tackling that disgusting basement. I will be dusting for months. Never again. These in the incubator will have to go out in a few weeks..No 5 to 6 weeks in the house. I normally get them out and on the ground by day three.
