Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Good morning to all (especially the new-comers!) Kinda brightly cloudy here today...at least it's not snowing! The dogs are all asleep on the furniture (of course) and all is quiet here....AAHHHH! DH drove home from Nebraska last night...he thought he would be here around ten but got home earlier. I guess the roads werent as bad as he thought. Then he found out that the meeting in Green Bay today was cancelled so he could have stayed in Nebraska! He went to the office in Milw cause there was a different meeting in Waukesha I guess. Cant keep track!
Just hearing about your drive Hurley makes me happy to now have a job where the work comes to me! LOL! Your DH doesnt do snow removal when he's home? I would think snowsuits for the boys and a couple of shovels might get them good and tired! Of course I had lots of "help" shoveling my driveway yesterday...most of it was the snow being shoveled back onto the drive!

Anyway... thanks for the vent.........suggestions thoughts and wiser more experienced opinions welcome....
Sorry no help from me Kjg...my son that is now 24 is finally getting a bit more respectful. He actually says "sure" more often now than making a face about helping. Good for you taking the phone away! I really think the problem is that we give our kids way too much and they dont have to do anything to get it--so they get this "entitlement" attitude. I know I did it with my kids...I sure hope that there are parents who didnt do it---otherwise we are all going to be in a world of hurt when we are old(er) and these kids are "taking care" of us!

Speaking of kids...I think I have the day off today! I guess I better get my butt of of here; I need to go and buy a new coffee pot and do some grocery shopping! Pretty good ad at the Pig today. I might just give MXM a call and see if she wants to go along!

Later peeps! Have a great day! TerriOdrinkingdayoldcoffeeandnotlikingitonebit

:welcome  to the new members!!

BBP ~~ so sorry to hear about your moms shed.  I feel for her, times are tough.

Snow day yesterday, so I shoveled out the coop ..........again..... and cleaned it.  Stayed home from work.  50% of the brood is sick, including the hubby ...uugghhh.  So far just snot and crabbiness.  Had to nebulize the 7 yr old  though, he has always had issues, but thank God I have the medicine and the machine at home to do it.

Snow daze always seem like a fun idea, that is until you have a teenager.  ggrrr.  having a hard time with this one.  Not sure quite how to handle it, or I guess I just don't make a big deal.  ggeesshhhh can I have a forum and a manual for parenting correctly!!!??
The Boy, was disrespectful to his father and his coaches at practice... sigh... if he ONLY understood how talented he is and how many people he had in his corner...uggh.  Anyway, since there was a snow day, apparently this is code for " I get to hang out with that special girl and my friends"........Dear .. IT is a SNOW Day for a reason! .. besides the fact, you don't get rewarded for disrespectful behavior.
So anyway, The Boy, went out to shovel and I checked his phone, as I periodically do and he had VERY ColorFull Things to say about his parents........:th :bow   we give and give and get no appreciation.  I know it is the AGE... i am so hurt, i thought we had a better relationship than this.   well the phone is gone for a very long time.  What bothers me most is that there was NO appology, not even a fake one!  ggrrr   uuggghhh...........

Anyway... thanks for the vent.........suggestions thoughts and wiser more experienced opinions welcome....

I remember being a s*!t at that age :-( I now feel very guilty. I am 32, I have 2 kiddos. 6 & 3, I love them so much! Dont ever want them to feel any anger towards me. Im sure it is inevitable tho...

My parents tried to always be supportive of all I did. Im very sure they felt frustrated as you do now. I now love thm to pieces! I think your son needs time to grow up a little... ivve been training a 4h class for 13 yrs and have watched many kids go from sweet 10 yr olds to mean roll your eyes teens, then turn into responsible well adjusted young adults :) theres hope afterall!!! Sounds like your a wonderfull parent that keeps your kids active in dofferent things ( coaches...) I say keep up the good support!!!!!!!!

good morning,, the snow missed us completely.. God rewards and punishes in strange ways..

teenagers,, hmmm,, no advice from this corner.. I will say this much,, accepting their bad behavior on the grounds that they are teenagers holds no credence with me..
I would take away ALL privileges and make them EARN them back, not just give them back after a time out.. I guess I lied,, that sounded like advice, didn't it ?

chicken talk,, a chicken can eat anything that you eat.. If they don't like it, they won't eat it..
I found that mine do not particularly like grapefruit..

I am going to go look at a job this afternoon.. a guy wants a bar built in his basement.. I guess I can come out of retirement for a small job , here and there.. at least is is an inside job..

we have our second guinea egg.. she is laying them behind my bench grinder on the work bench in my shop.. UnkaDan has seen the inside of my shop.. Not what a shop should look like..

time to go feed the throngs..

.....jimfeelingalittlelaidback.......

again, I want to thank everybody for their best wishes, and hugs..

we are having a delayed funeral a week from next saturday, so that everybody has a chance to make plans if they want to come..

......jimsayingthankyouall.............

If someone were to ask me, I would tell them this:

start setting your incubator up at least a week before you intend to set eggs.. You can always unplug it after it is set..

you will need about 4 each 16 inch long duct tape..(duck tape here in wisc)

remove all water from the reservoirs etc..

dry the inside of the bator the best you can, and then put it all together as if you were going to set eggs.. turner included..

remove the two red plugs from the cover.. save them for the last 3 days of incubation.. these holes are for humidity control,, not for heat control..

tape the seams where the top sets on the base with the 4 pieces of duck tape..

turn on the bator,, remember there is NO WATER in it.. If you went ahead and put water in it, take it out and read all the above until you get to here again..

this is probably the most important step in preventing heat "spikes".. a term I never heard before joining byc..

let the bator run at about 100 F.. if it goes higher, let it.. all we are doing is getting all the residue moisture out..

once the humidity is down around 30% to 35% and stays at that constantly, (this takes time and patience) .. it might take a couple of hours, or a day or two.. don't cheat on this step..

Now,you are ready to set up your fail safe temperature:
you are shooting for 100F or maybe even as high as 191F I recommend the 100F..

with a DRY incubator, at a steady 100F and taped seams, now you will never touch the control again.. You may turn it to a cooler setting but NEVER turn it warmer.. especially with eggs set..

OK back to the humidity.. once the bator is steady at 100F add one ounce of water through the hole in the lid.. use a 8 inch piece of tubing with a tiny funnel attached to it..
push the tubing through the turner all the way down to the wire mesh.. this will prevent splashing water on the eggs when they are set..

the humidity should go up almost immediately.. the temp may drop..

pay close attention to both.. write it down..

one more important issue.. use only ONE of each, a thermometer, and a hygrometer..

using two or three and "averaging" the readings is to say the least,, stupid.. the explanation for this would take an hour of typing,, so just take my word for it..

this is it in a nutshell.. you are ready to set eggs..

print this page,, I am not going to type it again..

Jim- just re-reading this. What should the humidity be at for days 1-18? And you keep the plugs out day 1-18?
