Well I've got the Dickey that made it's way here from Port Washington this week. I cleaned it up and sanitized everything today. Now we are in the process of setting the temps. The racks I bought from Cutler on ebay came and fit well. There is about a two inch gap between the two egg trays on the rack. Do I need to fill that space or can I leave it? They guy who had it incubated pheasant eggs and he used a paper egg tray cut to size as a spacer. Just wondering if I really need something in there or if it's okay without.

This one also has the automatic humidity system with a 5 gallon bucket. Do you guys use that to keep the water reservoir full or just fill as needed by hand?

I got three boxes of eggs from swaps in the mail today!!

I'll be setting the following eggs:

7+ of my own SFH

8 BCM - (crfarm)

7 SFH - (TNBEARCHICK)

5 Salmon Faverolle - (mrsmooncat)
6 Coronation Sussex -(mrsmooncat)
11 Wheaten/Blue Wheaten Ameraucana - (mrsmooncat)

I will be setting a day early though, not worried about the hatch along contests so no big deal. I'm headed down to Madison tomorrow afternoon for a weekend away with my BFF to do some scrapbooking.

Good evening! I am cooking pork roast, rosemary roasted reds, sweet potatoes and a veggie TBD. It is smelling so good I cant stand it!I gave my mealworm colony a sliced sweet potato that was not looking good...right now it is literally COVERED with baby mealies! Even the kids think they are adorable...and they wont touch the big ones! Silly kids!

and the Cheeseheads all the new folks! pull up a roost (as Vicki said) and stay a while! One caution...we dont ALWAYS talk chicken! LOL!

I have sad news to report...I was taking some pictures of some of my roos the other day and was so excited to post this guy...his feathers were coming in so good and I was thinking about taking him to the fair. Well, this morning he was running about like normal and then I saw something in the corner of the barn and he was dead! He was probably 5 or 6 years old and is the Daddy of all the wild chickens that live in the top barn...good thing his genes will live on because he has sons from last year all over! Here is the pic I took the day before he died.

I am sad that he is gone...OK I typed all this and I have just realized that this is NOT the bird but one of his sons! I have the bird in question on ice and ready to make some soup tomorrow....and when I cut his feet off they were BLACK! This one has pink feet and 1" spurs...the guy I cleaned up had 3" ones at least! I guess I will have to look further at my pics.

OK the movie from the library is done so I guess I need to do something with these kids! LOL!

Cassie I set up the bucket, I know Jim uses them as well,,,,b4 I set mine up my dry house drank over a gallon of water from the incubator in 2 days,,,,just sayin (when that happens the temp spikes a few degrees)

setting up more eggs (olive eggers) to add to the sportsman in a couple days,,,,fertilization could be sketchy at this point but nothing ventured as they say

my Ameraucanas are now separated, give it a week or two then start gathering eggs,,,,BCMs are on that same time frame

Oh Ho Casie! Mrs mooncat said she couldn't get me MY faverolles or Sussex because they weren't laying... I guess you are super duper special.

Its also funny because I got 3 boxes of eggs today too!

We have a lot of the same birds going. I'll have SFH going in, Bredas going in, buff faverolles, EE's, and lavender Ameracaunas and Polish.

I better get an incubator now...

Ugh- I am going to throw this ?*&%?^%$ stupid incubator out the window!!!!!! I CANNOT get this dumb thing to the right temperature. This is day two now of me screwing around with the cursed thing.

Now I'm not naming names but somebody counted their eggs. That same somebody happens to have 62 eggs, which is about 20 more eggs than her Bator can hold. Hhhhmmmmmm... Someone should have learned how to count BEFORE her eggs came.

Evening to Everyone....Special welcome to the cheeseheads thread. Good help from everyone here if you need some. Try to make our annual get together the end of May this year, it puts faces with names, and a chance to swap birds, plants, and bull from some....(not me) of course!

Yep, the coop needs to be safe from predators, dry, and draft free with good ventilation. The ventilation might take some trial and error to figure out what works best for your coop. It seems like they all like a little different tweak to get it just right.

Been busy here....good to see everyone gearing up for the hatching season.

My Blue Orp is still not laying yet. I have not checked fertility on my eggs from the Blue Orp cockerel. I guess i will find out in 7 days or so.
