Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Evening all,

sorry be quiet for a long time, Short story, 18 year old son decided he had enough of rules.  Moved out,  failing classes, no car, 2 jobs. Blames me for daring to comment on his grades, or telling him to do his homework.  He is a junior, so major Crash and burn. Been gone 5 weeks, looks like forever.  He will figure it out, hopefully sooner than later.

Banties are doing well.
I see Twain is going to be in our area for his chicken seminars, Love them, he is so entertaining.
Need to start looking for chicks. Decide I won't ship, it is too unpredictable

hope all have been well
David

Sorrry to hear about your son. Patience is hard when we want the best for them. We are just starting this teenage adventure... Holy Cow!!!! Didn't realize this part could be so hard...sigh... They will appreciate us when they are older,,,,,,I hope. Best of luck to you, hang in there.

Judge,, and others.. when you tilt the incubator,, some of the excess water might leak out .. just have a towel under the bator to absorb it.. after awhile you will get the "feel" of how much water to put in.. a little water will go a long way.. you might have to add some daily..

I just tweaked bator #1.. the water was not coming down the tube,, It is now, though.. if the valve does not shut off soon, it will be spilling over the top of the pan.. I am keeping a close watch of it..

the temp is holding at 99 again and the hum% went up to 45% ..

looks like the valve is not going to shut off.. better go and drain some water off..

........jiminahurry..........

I am back.. did not have to do anything.. the water peaked at just about a quarter of an inch from the top of the pan.. humidity is in the 50's.. temp is at 99 F

I put her eggs in, but I am not going to start the turner just yet.. some of the eggs were upside down in the cartons and the air cell was hard to find.. I candled all of them as I put them in..

I still have to go get the guinea eggs out of the fridge.. they might not hatch, but sometimes they will.. I will mark each one so I will know at the end of the incubation period..

I can clearly see that I will have to open an air hole or two.. I am going to let the hum% peak first, so I will know how high it will go at the end of incubation when I have to close the holes and raise the hum%.. it is up to 55% right now.. I would like it to reach at least 60% for when I do goose eggs..

I will set up bator #3 for the high hum% eggs otherwise..

well, I do not see any water dripping, so I guess it is safe to let it ride for awhile..

better go outside and batten down the hatches for the upcoming snow onslaught..

What a weekend! You have all chatted way too much for me to try and keep up.

Drove down to IL on Friday with my mom and sister for the funeral of one of my second cousins. It was sad but also happy, I was able to see family members that I have not seen in almost 20 years. Stayed with my cousin and had a great time catching up. Unfortunately I became ill on Saturday with whatever bug is going around the plant, so I was laid up for a good portion of the day. Good thing that bug was quick to come on and quick to get rid of, by 3 I was feeling much better and was able to head over to Janesville. My sister was performing at the Janesville PAC with River Cities Jazz Band and I was invited to take photos of the group. The show was fantastic and I was able to get some amazing shots! We left this morning in pea soup conditions..... I was very happy to leave the fog behind, once we were through Madison it completely disappeared. Finally drove in the driveway at 2..... it is so very nice to be home.

So that was the weekend in a nutshell!

Rain rain rain. The snow is compressing, slushing, shrinking.

Got a few photos today for grins...

Hurley! You have some nice looking chickens!!

Rhonda and Rhoda are getting the hang of the new digs. I checked again after church and they each left me a present! They made a nest on the floor, though. I think the nest boxes I have are a bit too small for those big girls. Gotta get the hubs to build some bigger boxes for them soon. I leave the pop out open for them during the day but they haven't ventured out into the yard yet. The snow cover must be too deep for them and there's more coming here tonight and tomorrow!

it looks like the bator #1 is topped out at 65% hum%..

I started up bator #3 I am going to just make sure everything is set right temp wise..

It is now 81 F in this room pretty soon I will just set the eggs on shelves in this room and they should hatch..

I have 11 guinea eggs in a tray and ready to pop into bator #1 in a little while.. they were in the fridge, so IDK if they will hatch.. but what have I got to lose by trying?? the bator is already going and calling for more eggs , more eggs !!!

I put an ad on C List for guineas and have one order for 10 already..

no snow here yet.. but the wind is sucking from the East,, we are really going to get dumped on, I am afraid.. and I think this one is going to be wet and heavy snow..

Searching for a friend in Elmwood:

Yorkshire pigs of good quality. 3 females, one male (unrelated). If anyone has any leads on where to get this please pm me. Thanks

Also, I went to Tractor Supply yesterday. Apparently someone got a little happy on ordering ducks. They had SO many. And one stock tank was filled with pekins that were a couple of weeks old already. They were huge. They had a buy one, get on half off on those. They guy working there said if I took them all he'd give me a great deal. I just can't have them. Not with my call ducks.
