Is it ever going to stop snowing?

Got a call from the census last week wanting to know if I was interested in testing for another census job! What the heck, why not? So I'm off to town in the morning for a couple hours of testing and two interviews. Wondering if I'm not getting too old for this. I'll probably get beat out by a college kid anyway. Knew I should have bought that hair dye. Playing the poor little old lady card doesn't work for job applications, darn. Hope I get it. I've done a lot of work for them and actually enjoy it as long as I'm able to stay clear of the politics (which in the past I was pretty good at). Pay is $4 an hour less than last time but mileage is higher. This one is also supposed to be a permanent part time with no more than 80 hours a month so it would give me some extra pocket money without cutting into my chickie time. Wish me luck, I think I'm going to need it.

You guys crack me up.

Not much happening here. The girls are lovin' the FF. At first they would eat only a little and then they began gobbling it all up. I still have their dry food out there as an option, but I do believe that they are eating less of it. I also have wheat berries that I've sprouted that I've been feeding them.

I am still waffling on whether I'm gonna cull the 3 birds that I have. The dominant one, is loud like a rooster at times, but always hackles when someone steps outside. Another one quietly mimics her. Their egg production was consistent up until we hit January, then it was hit or miss even with light provided. I am thinking that I'll think some more on this...but leaning towards culling.

The rabbit is mad at me (I swear)! He won't come to me now and I think it is because I keep blocking his tunnel up. Every other day (or two) he digs to China. But I always find it and stuff the earth back in the hole. He just runs circles around me.

Haven't heard any news on the house yet. The owners have submitted their documents and we are just waiting on the mortgage company.

The cat is getting blisters and losing hair again. The doc said it was an allergy of some sort and to give prednisone. Good thing the crazy cat loves the medicine. He even comes when I shake the bottle and I don't even have to hold his mouth shut. Any suggestions? I have given ACV in water, but not consistently. I'll try to do that more regularly because its should help, right? What about FF? Has anyone fermented cat food?

Make your own cat food and ferment it,,and yes.ACV in the water all the time will help. Most allergies are from the dye in foods. It would be a great way to use your girls too. Chicken, rice, and veggies.
If you are thinking of culling..than it is time for soup..stop worrying and stressing about your birds. When they stop being a joy..its time for soup!! I am making soup for the Ladies Thursday..chicken vegetable and rice. Butchered up a nice fat young cockerel. Should be yummy!

sorry ,you r correct. I am new to this so i am still trying to sort it out. not to computer savey yet. but I ll get up to speed soon. In the mean time I sure do enjoy reading about all of the interesting things being put out there. you all seem like such nice folks. I really enjoy your chit chat. how long did it take to get to know each other? have some of you met in person? how do you swap with others? jim i dont know you, however I would like to express my condolences for the loss your mother. Chickenscratch, have you tried switching to a grain free cat food? I have a cat that has allergies to grain - I have her on Evo (dry and canned) and she is doing great. I did have her on Solid Gold Indigo Moon for a while too and she did ok on that. Making the cat food myself would be even better for her, but I don't have the motivation to do that. You have to grind the meat and make sure you include the bones. The recipes I found recommend chicken thighs. Cats aren't supposed to eat as of wide a range of food as dogs. If I set some corn down for my dog he would eat it. My cat would look at me like I was nuts. So why is it in cat food? Because it's a cheap way to up the protein content, even though its not benefiting the cat in a positive way. I would never feed any grocery store or Walmart brand of cat food (or dog food). I'm not saying you do, I'm just putting that out there for everybody. Your cat could be allergic to chicken or even fish. Or maybe it's not a food allergy at all, could be environmental.

Hey Heather, what kind of chicks you hatching?

Zeke youll get the hang! I just recently started with compers too!! Ive learned soooo much. Hubby yells that all I do is sit on the smart phone (which is getting a little smarter ;-))

He first started losing hair and getting blisters on the back of his legs and losing weight. I gave him the prednisone for a few days only and he was better for a week or so. Now I am giving him the meds again. I originally thought it was the cat litter, but his most recent spot is on his chin. I'll look into food allergies (grains, etc). Thanks everyone!
