Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I am egg-cited for you delisha!!!! All of your babies hatching hopefully. What about not helping on those collapsed eggs??? I didn't understand. Sorry to hear about the burned one, so sad! Which one was it?

My 3 black orps that are outside are roosting about 5 ft high in the run portion of the coop. Those little buggers have out grown their baby digs and have decided that they are tweenagers (prematurely)!!

Actually this is beneficial because my babies will need a new place in a few weeks when CC's lav orps come my way!

The baby BLRW's and ameraucana's are just so cute! They are all transforming with their feathers coming in already. One of my splash BLRW's flew the coop today while I was cleaning out the litter on the bottom. She/he is very friendly and curious! My little black ameraucana has stole my heart however!

My oldest DD12 comes home from Maryland tomorrow afternoon. What a great Easter present! The other two come home Monday evening. We are planning on having a glow-in-the-dark Easter egg hunt for them Monday night. Since they are all too old to believe anymore, I figured we'd do something more up their alley. Tomorrow morning, I'll have to hunt down glow sticks and plastic easter eggs.

I was supposed to make Easter bread today but we went over to a friends house and had dinner and played guitar with him and his wife. Oh well, tomorrow is another day.

Night all!

Thank you so much for the offer- so sweet of you! I really wish I lived near there..
Well - I am sitting here bawling my eyes out. I knew something was wrong, so I candled the eggs. I pulled 16 of the 24. When I cracked them open it looked like 3 of them had maybe started, but the rest were just yolk. Nothing smelled bad- just warm yolks. I left in 8 that I couldn't be 100% sure on, but two of them are Ameraucana eggs, and I can't see in them. I am so upset. Like snot running down my face upset. I don't know what went wrong? I don't know what to tell the kids... No chicks for Easter, and they had been so looking forward to it. I don't know....

So sorry to hear, it's just heartbreaking to not have anything come of a hatch. Been there, done that enough to feel you pain! I'm guessing you aren't close by, but if you want chicks and are willing to come Palmyra (near Whitewater) I can get chicks for your kids for Easter.

I'm 5 pages behind so I apologize if I missed anything important. Bad, bad evening and day so I haven't had time to catch up. So sorry you were so upset Judge, but I highly doubt you did anything wrong with your hatch. It sounds like a fertility issue, as I'm sure many others have already said. As you get more experience, you will know what to look for earlier & be able to add more eggs as you find the duds. Chin up. It happens to the best of us, eh Jim?

Happy Easter everyone,

Just got done hiding the Easter Baskets. Teenage boys stay up way to late for me but I beat them up by hours. I had 3 broody bantams at the same time, I read somewhere you are supposed to dunk them in cold water, I thought that was a bit cruel, also read just put them somewhere cool, so I picked them up and put them outside in the covered coop. It worked. Wished I had a roo ( can't) i would have had tons of chicks, they were each sitting on about 10 eggs. Hope we don't get snow, it seems that the rain has helped knock down the snow.
