Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I should be cleaning my house (including stinky litter boxes) but instead my daughter and I are doing head stands and other fun things. She also made me do this back flip thing. It wasn't that fun when I landed flat on my back. She says "you did pretty good, try it again".

The things we won't do for our kids, eh?

TO, sorry it must have been the Bobwhites you were talking about. I knew it started with a B. B for buttons, bobwhites, and baby brain.

BBP don't hurt yourself now. Don't wanna see you at the Bash in a neck brace.

LM, I would snag them but you know my odds this year with eggs.

I have one splash left..I am bringing it..I have no idea the sex yet..It is a huge chick..I will post pictures..
The new coop looks beautiful.

This is just my opinion..Moving birds during broody periods can be good and bad. Some just abandon the nest, most do not and settle right in if done at night. If you choose to move her and the eggs, it is good for mom and chicks to be with the general population. That way there is no integration period for growing chicks. She is used to the other chicken sounds and will be comforted by them if you move her soon after you move your general flock over. Try to take as much of her original bedding as you can with the eggs if you do make that decision. If you decide to leave her where she is at, I would not move her into the new coop till the chicks are hatched and she is ready to take them off the nest.I would probably choose the latter decision myself.

I have a broody who gets off just at night or early morning. I never see her off the nest. I have some who take three hour breaks during the day. I just watch comb color. If it gets pale I take them off and put them in the yard so they have to move a pretty far distance to get back to the nest. I have two broody's in the same box now. I will have to move someone eventually. One is a chick stealer and it might not turn out well. The other one is setting on duck eggs.

My duck is not too happy, but she is looking for another nest sight.

Your chicken sounds pretty normal..
Thanks for sharing your experience and opinion. We thought it would be good to keep her near her Coop mates too. I think TerriO suggested waiting about a week after the hatch to move mom and chicks. I knew there would be alot of good advice,I'm so glad I stumbled onto this forum

Hi All!

cuties.... You can name the lone chick "Uno" lol

Psyco.... What most of us do to "post along" is open 2 tabs. Go to the end of the thread with one (where you want to respond) and "your last post" on the other. But sometimes you just don't want to do that much! LOL

vicki....My youngest son's birthday is the 3rd too!

Angie... Mariposa That's kinda cute. Hope I remember which one she is when she grows out of it.

RBerry... Neat broody box.

JIm.... That's going to be a big greenhouse! Cool!

Well, only 4 hatched so far. One IDK what is up with it, I'll pull it tomorrow. Looks like mom chipped 1/2 the shell off down to the membrane. I did touch it, it's real rubbery.

I got about 20# of asparagus .... now I got to go prep it for the freezer!

Oh.... Our new neighbors are in love with our turkeys! LOL The Toms have been going to visit and she pets them and talks to them and gives them massages! LOL She shows them off to her relatives and has more pictures of them than I do!

Night all!

Opening a second window works, too! LOL! But when I click on (20) unread posts, it doesn't work 90% of the time. Just refreshes the last page and then I take a random guess as to how many pages back.

here is the other view that wouldn't upload yesterday.. with the trailer , you can get a better idea of how big it is.. Not as big as Unka Dan's, don't let the lawn chairs fool you.. I only used them as markers to deter the neighbor from plowing/dragging through my building site..

I got up before sunrise today and sprayed the apple tree with water.. hoping that will save the blossoms.. It works with garden plants if the frost touches them,, if you spray the frost off before the rising sun can hit them.. I hope it works, last year we lost all of our blossoms to the frost and had no apple pies ..

guineas are supposed to hatch within a couple of days.. I had no luck with goose eggs.. I have one gosling.. No turkeys yet..

I have about 5 dozen eggs to set.. turkey, chicken and guinea..

I am going to put some geese on Craig's List.. and some Buff Orpington chicks,, soon, too.. as soon as they are old enough to be without auxiliary heat..

today I am going to till up the ground within the green house frame and then dump a few buckets of top soil in .. then I will top that off with a good dose of compost and commence building the wall.

anybody know where I can get 16 to 18 sheets of patio door glass ? the 34" x 78" size.. that would work perfectly for my GH roof..
