Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hello,
I am new here and am in dire need of some help. I made a really bad mistake and now am paying dearly for it. I'm trying to track down a man that sold Black Copper Marans at the Wheaton Swap Meet in late April. this is located just West of Chippewa Falls on old 29. Anyone who attended this swap and knows others who were selling I would greatly appreciate help.

I have lost 10 chickens now and 24 sick another 16 exposed. I had to take my prize Black/Lavender Oprington rooster to Barron testing facility today to be tested for what the vet is sure is mycoplasma.

Thank you,
Stacy

Oh no! So sorry! I hope you can find that seller!!

Sclark.... I'm really sorry you're going through this. I just lost 19 birds to cocci. When you're in the middle of something like that, it just seems like all you can do is watch and wait for your birds to die.

Culling is never ever easy, but sometimes has to be done. I do cry. I say a prayer. I don't chop the head off. I break the neck with a broomstick. There is a YouTube video that shows how to humanely cull a bird with a broomstick.

You do more than just ride with your broomstick? Multi-tasker!

Well the call to Edgewood Acres is a dead end. She recognized who I'm trying to find but doesn't know their names. Keep trying.
Stacy

Stacy -WOW. So sorry for what you are facing. 20 years breeding etc potentially wiped out not to mention you sound like you really love your birds. Can't imagine the heartbreak. I really commend you for sticking with tracking these people down. Can only pray they didn't hit more swaps or spread to other sellers there. What a nightmare!!!!
I know it's. Not much, but you did teach me about "illegal" swaps. How can you find out in advance if a meet is registered? Please keep us posted on your progress with your search and with your flock. Again, so sorry for your losses.

TO - I will definitely keep your offer filed away. It appears my sweet Aussie as well as my BS (who got it from her by pecking probably because she has always had a thing for everybody else's butts-th told this was possible, especially after all my girls had been thru) have Salpingitis. Got this dx. from a very knowledgeable source. Anyway, that explains why they stopped laying. They are both doing well now but sometime soon my Aussie won't be ( already showing signs of a decreased appetite) with my BS following a month or two later. That's the way it is with this, they can stay healthy for months before it slowly starts to get to them. I can sure understand that, I had leukemia for at least 2 years before I had any clue something was wrong.
Anyway, once they have passed, I think I might like to replace them with Aussies. In the meantime I am definitely keeping my baby RS's separated. I kind of wish now I hadn't went in with the neighbor for "productions" and waited.

BF4ME - thank you for the tip on the YouTube video, I will probably need to watch it before my girls start to decline. As long as they still have quality of life they can just be my little lawn ornaments but I have no intention of allowing them to suffer.

Ok, on to happier things. Dr appt this pm for an inner ear infection, whoopee!!!! Oh well, good excuse to go shopping. I'll be in town anyway, right??? ;)

I play a mean game of quidditch on my broomstick, thank you!

However, that mole on my nose with the hair growing out of it isn't very aerodynamic...

Chickenscratch: happy closing tomorrow! It is so exciting to finally see the end of the process and have it be yours!!

Good late morning! You guys are very funny today (and last night) I am sitting here trying not to breathe too deeply...one of the dogs was out all night and evidently found something really good and rotten to roll in! Aack! Dog baths today for sure!

Stacy--sorry you had to meet us because of such a terrible situation! I had a little bit of sneezes in my turkeys a few years back and I ordered powdered Tylan50. Took care of them pretty quickly. I recommend for everyone to have this on hand as it is good for lots of stuff. I hope you get some resolution and you dont have to start over! That would be very sad indeed.

Just for you Chickenscratch! THE SWEETS ARE PLANTED! Here is a pic to prove it...I sure hope they get as big as they say! There is A LOT of extra bare dirt right now to grow weeds.

See those little bitty plants?

Here is my spotty potato row. Sure wish you were closer with all those potatoes to give away! Isnt there some place you can donate them? You CAN eat seed potatoes. Food pantry? Community gardens?
Anyway--I hilled them with the extra dirt I had from the sweet's bed. It is many year old compost turned to black soil! Very fertile stuff...I just hope it is the right balance and doesnt just grow leaves! That would really be a bummer. I guess I should get it tested someday....

I picked up a bunch of clearance perennials at the Home Depot while in Madison the other day...guess I better get them in the ground today. I also got 7 new herb plants to replace what didnt come back. I am just like you Frenchie...when I shop I am always giving advice on stuff! I educated a woman about herbs that day. She didnt know tha tyou could cut them back to make them fuller. She was planting little jars for favors for her daughter's wedding. What a great idea!
Good advice on the fish...I am thinking about getting a Pleco to live in my stock tank if I cant find some barley straw pretty quick! I scrubbed it on the weekend...YUK!

Have a good one! TerriOwithamigrainetodayfromtoomuchsunyesterday

Not much else new here. Same ol
Ghost, hang in there :-( hopefully hubs will soon find a better job. I would be feeling frusterated in your current situation. Chin up

Big fam, glad things are better for you.

Crd, sorry I forgot your name. Scary sh! T!! I hope you can track the breeder down! To protect us all!! Keep it from spreading! I am sorry for you having to deal. And, you are correct. I talked to someone at the school not too long ago. Birds once inglfected are life long "carriers" even if not showiing symptoms. And it will/can transfer to eggs. You have some tough decisions ahead of you. I wish you the best of luck.

Sorry if I m issed anybody!!
Have a good day today :)

Well its official
I hate the brinsea octagon 20 incubator !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I got 11 chicks hatched this am, 3.. I had to peel outa the shell, 1 is not gonna make it, intestines are hanging out, the other seems ok so far, and 2 were already dead pipped or never or partially zipped......... 7 eggs with nothing, but I think the temp spike on day 20 killed them, wrote a very nasty letter to brinsea this am, will see if they do anything to rectify the situation, I'm on the second turner also and that one is clicking already too, so very soon the clutch will quit, and it won't do anything but click....... plus they sent me a return label that was no good so the last turner went back on me cost me 10.80, because the labels are good for 3 days, and it was 4 days old when I received it,.......... So discussed with this company, should of listened to Jim, and bought one he would recommend........he said he didn't like the Brinsea's, must have been a good reason for his dislike............. when will I learn to listen to plain oldster knowledge.............. arggggggggggg really having a bad week this week, now I'm gonna have to cull that 1 baby and I hate doing that so very much, I already have a cripple I couldn't kill from the first batch......... because he was eating and drinking good, but he can not walk, or stand and can't even eat unless I pick him up and feed him.............grrrrrrrr Too much heart and not enough Brain, Gods big joke on me.........
so anyway just thought I would update ya all......later Kim

PS BabyLady4 what is Ottery???
