Thank you amyb874 and judge. Very nice photos babylady.

Frenchtoast- I have given every consideration to this ordeal and have it narrowed down to the birds I purchased at Wheaton. I bought 5 Black Copper Marans there. Within 48 hours of purchase ones eye crusted over with puss, snotty nose and was dead in morning in coop. That same day one of my Golden Laced Wyondots started sneezy hiccupy noises. Then it just spread. I have calendar records of other bird purchases over the past year and no problems. I honestly don't want to point fingers but I bought sick birds and don't want anyone else to have to go thru the. same thing if I can help prevent it. My damage is already done. I culled my first birds ever lastnight and I'm devastated. I just don't have it in me to do the flock if necessary, I'll have to have help from my MIL, she butchers frequently so.
I do know people sell sick birds at swaps now. I've been told by 2 different people since this started to just keep doing what I orginally planned as all birds have MG anyhow, one of which was a breeder and the other a swap organizer. Like I stated earlier this was my first swap experience this year and I won't be doing it again. I've always bought private party. I'll just have to wait for my tests Monday or Tuesday and go from there, but I will find this person.

I play a mean game of quidditch on my broomstick, thank you! However, that mole on my nose with the hair growing out of it isn't very aerodynamic... Chickenscratch: happy closing tomorrow! It is so exciting to finally see the end of the process and have it be yours!!
Thanks
Good late morning! You guys are very funny today (and last night) I am sitting here trying not to breathe too deeply...one of the dogs was out all night and evidently found something really good and rotten to roll in! Aack! Dog baths today for sure! Stacy--sorry you had to meet us because of such a terrible situation! I had a little bit of sneezes in my turkeys a few years back and I ordered powdered Tylan50. Took care of them pretty quickly. I recommend for everyone to have this on hand as it is good for lots of stuff. I hope you get some resolution and you dont have to start over! That would be very sad indeed. Just for you Chickenscratch! THE SWEETS ARE PLANTED! Here is a pic to prove it...I sure hope they get as big as they say! There is A LOT of extra bare dirt right now to grow weeds. See those little bitty plants? Here is my spotty potato row. Sure wish you were closer with all those potatoes to give away! Isnt there some place you can donate them? You CAN eat seed potatoes. Food pantry? Community gardens? Anyway--I hilled them with the extra dirt I had from the sweet's bed. It is many year old compost turned to black soil! Very fertile stuff...I just hope it is the right balance and doesnt just grow leaves! That would really be a bummer. I guess I should get it tested someday.... I picked up a bunch of clearance perennials at the Home Depot while in Madison the other day...guess I better get them in the ground today. I also got 7 new herb plants to replace what didnt come back. I am just like you Frenchie...when I shop I am always giving advice on stuff! I educated a woman about herbs that day. She didnt know tha tyou could cut them back to make them fuller. She was planting little jars for favors for her daughter's wedding. What a great idea! Good advice on the fish...I am thinking about getting a Pleco to live in my stock tank if I cant find some barley straw pretty quick! I scrubbed it on the weekend...YUK! Have a good one! LOL! Jim, you and Z better get him quick for this 'project', he is going to start working 10 hour days 6 days a week starting the 29th..... and he LOVES New Glarus beer! Spotted Cow, Totally Naked, Two Women, Fat Squirrel,......... too bad he will be working when I drive up to Clintonville next week to pick strawberries..... We now have 4 people working in the lab during the day....... and since the weather has not warmed up we are not very busy...... so there is a lot of thumb twiddling going on..... Our intern is working on a few projects of his own; side experiments you could call them. He is such a smart kid and he has all of there neat 'toys' at his disposal; it is fun to watch the wheels turn in his head. He is destined for great things... Did my kickboxing class tonight; two weeks of vacation have really taken a toll on me....... but I was really happy on Monday when I did 10 regular push-ups! A few months ago I could barely do 2!

My co-workers and myself are doing a mud run this weekend; we are Team Cliff Notes since we are all nerdy people and the name of the event is Edge The Ledge. Tyler from Purely Poultry is doing this race with us! I hope I can get some pics so I can post them up here.... I suppose it is the witching hour and I should think about sleeping......... I will try to get some pics up tomorrow morning. Ghost: http://www.otterytransportation.com/

Wow!!! Great soggy morning everyone!! I haven't even been out to the coop yet (I know, bad chookie mom's) every time I start outside it pours harder!
STACY - plz let us know your test results. I guess t is one of the most fascinating and sometimes devastating things about flock keeping, it is a never-ending learning experience.
FRENCHIE - I know you deal with neuropathy too. Ever had this? Went to my pcp yesterday in Rhinelander thinking I had a chronic inner ear infection but instead was told it was the nerve that runs from my neck to the left side of my head and that the discomfort would have been a lot worse if I wasn't already taking neurontin. So he upped my meds. Just curious what you think.

OOPS - just stopped raining g so I better make a run for the coop!!!! BBL!!!

BL4 - AWESOME pics!!

This rain is going to do my garden (AND the quack grass) a lot of good! Didn't get it all planted yet but getting close!

My girl and her puppy are home for a long weekend - she and the hubs were going to go to Tomah for a tractor pull but decided it was too nasty to go so she'll be hanging with me at the store.

Y'all have a great day! Hope all your critters are on the mend!

good morning folks,

yep,,,the only irrigation I will need for a few days is in the greenhouse,,,,wet and windy,,,the birds came out and went back in their respective coops. The ducks of course are luving it!

speaking of ducks, Amy did you need a WH drake? I have had terrible hatches in 3 attempts but I think I have it figured out, mine are older and the drake is not providing good fertility. I do have 2 drakes in the brooder and another 7 eggs that are looking ok at day 18 or so. All I really want is a few young ducks and at least another drake for next year. Even at 3-5 yrs old these 9 girls give me an average of 5 eggs/day

as to the sick birds, I have only been to 1 swap, didn't buy anything. I do get contact info from every breeder I have gotten eggs, chicks, juveniles, or pullets from. I think it's a good practice just for future info, breeding questions etc. I can now see it also is good IF a disease evidences itself. At some point in the next year I think I will get NPIP since I do plan to sell chicks and eggs. pia when you consider the $$ it costs and the fact that the diseases they test for are almost unheard of these days,,,,

stacey you are the 2nd person in the last few months that has had to make the "tough call" on this thread, hopefully everyone learns something from all of this. Once again I have learned I will NEVER bring birds here and not quarantine them for at least 30 days. The last birds I got were not in a totally separate coop(even though they were kept in isolation), my bad, that won't happen again. Please share your test results and suggestions from that lab.

Mellie, I just love some of the water pics. They are my faves so far! They actually remind me of agates cut open with the crystals and layers of colors inside!

Waiting for Deli and Joe. It's rainy here. Luckily my coop is built inside my back shed so we can still work in there. It won't be. A Wasted trip. Now getting the hay from my barn to the coop will be a wet venture, but I'm not the kind of witch that melts in water. So everything is A-OK! ;)

Wow Vick, That sounds very very uncomfortable..... how long have you had it? Do you have other neuropathies that are chemo related or diabetes related (thus the reason for neurontin) I was put on that years ago and for some reason went off of it. I think it made me to sleepy. ???

Does your oncologist know about your neuropathies? If not I would make sure they know. They might even be able to refer you to a good neurologist. The one I see in the best but he is way down in Racine.

Years ago I used the zostrix cream (it has hot red pepper in it) That stuff stung when you wore long sleeve shirts or put your arms under water.

Wish I could offer more advice sorry. Might be worth a trip to GB or wausau for a second opinion.

Wow, just go up an hour ago and I'm nodding off while I'm typing... think it's time to go back to bed or a while....
