I love my EE and Olive Eggers.... they lay a very nice size egg and are nice all around birds.

We've had our best luck with horse manure. We have very sandy gravely ground and could only grow thistles until I made raised beds of straight horse compost. Every third year we have to add new as weeds become uncontrollable although the first 2 we barely have to weed at all. I can ask my daughter as she's is going to college for horticulture and knows alot. She worked as greenhouse manager in high-school 4 years, currently works at Colonial Nursery in Ladysmith and is about to start her second year of college. Never knew a kid her age know so much about gardening. She's at work atm but I'll ask and get back.

Jim- when you hatch out pea chicks, what day did they typically start hatching?
I set the lock down date at 26 days.. they usually pip within 3 or 4 days.. I have not had enough of them hatch to get a good pattern set, though..

I think the peacocks are too busy trying to look pretty and don't spend enough time chasing the hens..

There are white peacocks for sale in Medford on Wausau Craig's list.. also some India blue.. Not too bad of prices...

Quote: I would love some whites but we never got our peacock pen or house up yet. They are still living in the greenhouse with tarps over the glass.... two windows open to keep cool..... I do want my greenhouse back for next year.... that's what I said last year..... wonder if I'll ever get it back ??

Ok, I'm going outside....Oh and ps.... the peafowl have free range... they're not locked up in the greenhouse !!! lol

okay, we are at day 22 so we will see how it goes, I did remove 3 eggs that were clear and were from the oldest ones we set.

hatching this year has been hit and miss here, I think the boys had their favorites and ignored others

not sure what we will get as far as colors: White male X India Blue female = ?

Ok all of you gardeners....... MRs Lazy Dazy here wants to know.....

Ok, I know nice rich composted soil is the best thing for a garden. We added that last year and ended up not planting.

Anyway, ET and I both planted tomatoes, cabbage and peppers....... I'd like to get suggestions on what to use to really give MINE a boost !!!! I wanna show him that I have a greener thumb...... I want his to thrive of course but would be nice to see what I can do......

Any ideas as to what fertilizer to use...... organic? Chicken $hit, Horse $hit? Donkey $hit? Pot Belly Pig $hit? Duck $hit? Goat $hit? and the list goes on !!!

I know not fresh $hit of any kind, too bad I have litterally TONS of it around here.

Oh and also, the cilantro that I bought at Fleet Farm I planted is doing good. I seperated the clumps into single plants. All look good. Then I forgot I had bought three more pots of it and was going to divide it again but plant a few plants in each hole. ET thought he was being nice and planted all three for me, in seperate holes but planted each clump as they came.
What does everyone else do? Never grew the stuff.
Use LABS

I checked on our broody girl that I moved last night and she has settled down and is sitting on her eggs!
