Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I gave the hen some ritz, oatmeal cookies, and wheat bread. She actually ate 1/2 of a ritz and a bit of cookie. Nothing more though.
Colton, maybe she doesn't feel much like eating due to the hot humid weather.. wait until about sundown and see if she eats, then,,

in the meantime make sure she has cool water to drink.. maybe put a teaspoonful of sugar in about 2 cups of water..

my chickens avoid eating sweet things like frosting on cake or donuts.. maybe the oatmeal cookie was too sweet.. just try plain oatmeal , dry from the box..

If I give my chickens mixed oats and corn, they pick out the corn and leave the whole oats..
they will eat oats and corn if I get it ground at the mill so it is too difficult to pick out just the corn..

Dang, 5 PM? That counts me out I guess...... strawberry picking it is tomorrow then.

Amy, I wish our Breakfast on the farm was that good, and it would be nice if they actually had it on a FARM! They hold ours at the fairgrounds and the FFA serves up pancakes. That's about it. I would much rather attend yours.......

Hot and humid again..... I would like to get the berries picked and processed tomorrow so we can get some swimming time in!!!!

I think I want to make pizzas on the grill tonight...... to hot to heat up the house....

Called the vet, to anxious to wait. So far only test done was parasites which he had none so cocci wasn't cause of bloody stool. Said to try again Wednesday or Thursday to see if rest are done. More waiting. Homemade incubator is holding a steady 99 deg and 53-56% humidity for 12 hours now.

are you connected to a thermostat ? or just relying on the light bulbs to regulate the heat ?

If you do not have a thermostat, do not be surprised if your temps do not hold true for the whole 3 weeks.. like BigZio, "just saying"..

Yes jvls1964, I had a new one for my baseboard heater that never got used. Thermometer saves high n low of each so I can keep tract of the fluctuation.

I agree with Jim, Colton. Skip the junk food and give her something nutritious that will give her some strength and energy for her immune system. Dry oats are good. Yogurt is good for the intestinal tract. Meat or cooked eggs would be very good to give her some protein. My chickens will never turn down a scrambled egg. Or you could try a hot dog. They worked wonders on Jims ailing dog.

Jim, speaking of Dora, when my sister's maremma got cancer, she completely stopped feeding her commercial dog food & started cooking regular food for her. That dog made a huge recovery and lived a heck of a lot longer than the vets ever expected. Maybe those hot dogs weren't such a bad idea.

My sis would cook up poultry legs/thighs, livers, brown rice and lots of veggies in a Nesco, then refrigerate/freeze it until she needed it. Just something to consider.

I hope she continues to improve for you.

good, just watch it real closely .. some of those electric heater thermostats have a on/off range of up to 10 degrees.. for that reason, I would never use one out of a water heater.. you might be OK as you go..

I am assuming you do not have a back-up thermostat, so what you want to do is set your initial heat with the incubator dry.. no humidity at all.. set it too 100F , again no water at all.. once stabilized, add water and the temperature should come down a bit.. whatever it is at that point is good to go for your eggs.. if the temperature should rise,, it merely means that you have run out of water and need to add some.. this works with most incubators..

If you do not set it up dry like I mentioned,, then when you run out of water,, your temperature will spike and you will kill all your eggs..

like BigZio, "just saying"

corrected "temperature" per Robin's sharp eye..

Don't you mean temperature, Jim?
