Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

well this week is eventfull-

The storm that blew through the other night snapped off one of my four beautiful pear trees. there goes 2 bushel of pears.

The storm also wrecked my pvc chicken tractor with my momma hen and her 4 chicks and 2 bronze poults living in.

Today, after I had cobbled the tractor back together I was visited by some chicks on my back porch. Went out to find one of the turkeys laying on the bird netting that is supposed to keep them in. took a minute to catch her, but when I did she feels delishcious.

Ok Cindy- TO is right. The leaves don't look quite right. I did some googling (is that a word?) and so far the closest I found was a variety of holly. I guess some holly doesn't have the scalloped edges. I'm going to keep looking though because now I'm curious :)

He said you get to take care of the NMR. Something about filling the nitrogen chamber? That and you have minions to do the dirty work.

He did not say too much, just that you have the students to help that you hire on and you pretty much do what I do at Fox already: make sure the profs have all the needed materials for labs. He was checking out his thesis paper today and running through questions for the GRE exam. I liked the paper on using the carbon nanotubes for determining blood sugar levels. The paper on desalination of water using the same type of tubes was pretty cool too.

Yes I was walking barefoot. One would think that would be a safe activity in the house......

Time for bed! Passing out at the computer here!

Good evening all-
Decided to move one of the broody hens to her own coop this afternoon. I have 3 broody hens, and somehow the eggs keep getting cracked, broken and eaten. This is getting really old. I have been trying to hatch with a broody for a month now. The first girl had a week to go, but while I was gone to Glidden she got out of her private coop and couldn't get back in. I forgot to tell DH to watch for this, so those eggs were ruined. Now these girls keep ruining the eggs. I checked on her tonight, and she has settled down inside, but is not sitting on the eggs! Grrrrr- I'll check her again tomorrow and see what she is doing.
Made 8 jars of cooked black raspberry/currant jam, and 18 jars of freezer. So far now we have made 75 jars of one kind or another of raspberry jam. This is only the second time I have used the currants. I am feeling really guilty that I have let all those currants go to waste the last twelve years that I have been here. The bush was planted over 50 yrs ago by my DH's grandmother. Sometimes his uncle will pick them to make wine, but I think I will use them from now on. I picked 10c. of those little buggers. Wow does that take a long time! The chickens were loving it though. I gave them a few handfuls, and all the skins and seeds after I put it through the sieve.
Gotta do green beans tomorrow, and did some more broccoli today. I think we will be green by spring from all the broccoli we will be eating this winter.
Night everyone!

Hello! I am new to the 'Cheesehead' group and wanted to drop in.

We just re-started our flock with some Ameraucanas , after our amazing 5 Buff Orps were picked off by something.

. So sad, they were the best chickens!
We got 8 Ameraucanas from a breeder, come to just find out that 7 of them are roosters, and half of the buff are Easter Eggers. Does anyone want roosters?
We just picked up some silver hens last night and they are SO loud! I hope they settle in soon because we keep running out to the coop thinking they must be killing each other only to find them sitting around Bawking their little heads off.

Loving to read over all the posts... Glad I saw someone referenced the WWII airplanes at the airport this week because 2 just flew over our house and scared my 11 year old. He thought we were under attack.

and to the Cheesehead thread! Hope you like it here.

Terri, care to share your famous blue ribbon recipe for currant jelly? I just picked a whole bunch of them today.

Judge, you beat me. They are choke cherries. I can take a pic of mine tomorrow. Currants have leaves that are similar to grapes. And yes, it does take a long time to pick them. I was getting sassed for a little while by a flicker. She must have wanted a snack, so I left her a few.

Bigfam, Bigz likes me best!

Tonight is going to be a very long night! DH has to sleep on his back and whenever he does that, he snores enough to wake the dead. I took DH to the urgent care yesterday AM to look at his knee. Looks like he may have torn some of the cartilage when he was installing another chicken door on the coop, then aggravated the heck out of it while golfing on Monday.

He said it was sore, so I told him to use a cart. Did he? Heck nooooooooo! Now it is all swollen up and he can't put weight on it. And what does the doc do? Gave him a brace, told him to take tylenol & stay off it. Can't wait to see that bill.

At least my mom brought him a walker to use. Gotta go. Sweet dreams, all!

I'm back. Had to help get DH to the bathroom.

Sandi, try rebooting. My computer does that too sometimes.
