PLEASE HELP!!!
my Noodle is sick!

Ok, here's the back story. momma started mouth breathing and acting like she wasn't feeling great. Then within a day she got really really congested. With everything else she had going, we just put her down. I held my breath it wasn't contagious but now I'm in trouble!!!! Yesterday (sometime) Noodle started shaking her head. This morning she sounds congested (but not nearly as bad as momma yet)

PLEASE.HELP I'M TRYING NOT TO PANIC BUT I DON'T WANT TO LOSE NOODLE OR THE REST OF MY GIRLS

Others here are far more knowledgeable than I am but if it were me. Id treat with antibiotic asap, I keep duramycin on hand now so thats what I'd use. Others suggest Tulan which I hear is also good just haven't used personally. Im sure someone will come on soon and give better advice. Sorry your going thru this!

Change in plans peep, we will be coming home tomorrow night, so I guess no meet-up at the mushroom store. I am going to try and get to it tonight on our way down......

No news here. Sorry about Noodle Vicki! I wish I could help you!

GLW hen Eda, her one hatched chick but yesterday she kicked the 7 eggs left around and broke one open so I give the other 6 to the Buckeye bantam.

OK, took a deep breath and searched BYC and it's looking like infectious bronchitis. I already have VET RX so starting that asap. Now, what next? Have hubby ready to run for FF to get whatever you guys recommend. Tylan 50? Duramycin?

I use Duramycin-10 or sometimes oxy-tet(can't remember what the package said) I've never used the Tylan but when recommended was told to inject but preferred the water mixing instead. For the Duramycin I mix 2 tbsp per gallon of water. If your only mixing for one chicken, I'd mix a quart which is 1/2 tbsp. I would treat for 5 days, but you should see improvement in a few days. As before I'm sure someone on here has different or better recommendations, this is only what I would do in your circumstance.

I'm pretty winded today if you can't tell, stress related I'm sure. Got a call from one of my cousins about midnight, another cousin from Tomah(where I grew up) had gotten into a fight with his wife and decided to head to the bar to let off some steam. He hung himself! He was only in his mid 30s and had 3 small children. I hadn't seen him since 07' when I was down to Tomah to see my grandfather in the VA, seems the older we get the less we would see each other. But ****, I'm just floored by this. My family has a HIGH suicide death toll. My aunt, mother to the cousin who called lived with me and committed suicide last Aug 5th in my home, son 14 found her. Another aunt and uncle committed suicide. My daughter 19 has anxiety now I'm seeing and is going thru a really ruff time since moving out last week having panic attacks daily. I told her she could move back home and no one would think any less of her. Anyhow, bad tract record my family has going on here.

good morning, anybody need guineas ? one of the clutches that Annie found is hatching.. 3 days early from my forecasted hatch date.. I sort of expected that.. I have about 2 dozen new babies.. NOW . I have to do si do the birds in the coop brooders to make room for the newbies,

Looks like I will have many adult guineas for sale next spring..

Marlene is going to laugh at me over this .. she can't sell babies at this time of the year either,, she has about 20 of them.. being the good guinea lady she is,, she has never butchered one..

I think I will be enclosing the greenhouse and it will become my winter quarters for the guineas..

Plus, I have about 40 more eggs in the other bator,, and a guinea is sitting on about 20 eggs outside..

another one just hatched,, I can watch them from my chair while I type..

My two transplanted grape vines seem to be thriving.. I mulched them with chopped and re-chopped grass clippings.. that should make a nice mat to hold the moisture in and keep the weeds down for awhile..

I have a patch of unwanted Jerusilum (sp) artichokes that I should take a picture of.. I have never seen any this tall before.. they are like small trees.. talk about an invasive species !!

I suppose I should get off of here and go see what the day will bring..

Sounds worse than infectious bronchitis... which is what my RIR got... They really never had the labored breathing, just knew something was wrong when then quit laying.
The mortality for IB is not very high and all of my RIR survived but the egg quality is way down they laid incomplete shells, no shells and yolk only. Called UW extension and they said the damage is done to the ovaries/reproductive tract and can not be healed. Also called another place by the time we figured it was IB was too late to blood draw only thing to confirm is an autopsy. So sorry about noodle, but I really do not think it is IB because y=our symptoms are so severe. Hope things get better fast

On a lighter note take a look at this portable fencing idea.... Think the hubby maybe busy next weekend

Think I am bad for copying the plans but....

Wish you were closer jim...if I am guessing I have three boys here with my guineas. yikes. Hoping one develops into a girl. They are about7-8 weeks old right now. still hearing only one syllable sound from them...

Hoping it is not too bad with noodle... off to dig up and move some plants around and try setting up a new strawberry patch.
