good corn husking morning all

Have you tried the microwave method of husking? Cut off the stem end right up to the last row of kernels and pop in the microwave for about 8 mins ( add more time if you put more than 3 in at a time). Grab the silk end of the husks with an oveglove and shake the corn out - it will strip out almost all the silk. Easy peasy.

I'm no cooking expert, but I've substituted acorn squash for pumpkin in recipes with no problem. I don't see why it wouldn't work.

90% of the canned pumpkin you buy in the stores is actually squash, fun factoid #1 of the day

Yep, already have my little floaty thing !!! Would prefer a to use my laptop but don't think that is a good idea. Not sure where Watersmeet MI is? I'll have to check. Sounds familiar but I know I've never been there.
So what is plan B?

Hmm - yeah not a good idea to use the laptop while on floaty thing in the water, one slip and there goes the ability to post and my break time entertainment

Watersmeet is just North of Land O Lakes, we stay on Thousand Island Lake and fish the Cisco Lake chain. Plan B with our meat birds is to put up the portable poultry fencing we spent a pretty $$$ on last year and it worked just fine. This year hubby thinks "oh the pheasant netting will work fine since it is big enough to drape over the fence posts and leave bunched up on the ground, nothing will want to get tangled in that netting" . . . yeah right

So he and nephew-in-law, set up the fence when they moved the mobile coop and pasture. Now it works to drape the netting out beyond the fencing like we had it last year. The meaties like to lay at the edge of the pasture, so when it was just netting it was easy for the owl to land on one trapping others (buffet time).

Better get moving so I get to work on time.

Yesterday was so bad...... I like to keep busy and sitting around drives me nuts; it gives me plenty of time to think about all of the things I could be doing instead of rotting away doing nothing!

I hear ya on needing to keep busy - I've been waiting on data downloads this morning and thinking about all the things I have waiting to be done at home.

Well another one to chalk up to shitty health care in rural areas. When I was at the docs yesterday I complained about how painful my mouth had been getting, worse than right after surgery. Doc. looked into my mouth and just said it would take time to heal. When I say painful, I mean to the point I can't swallow without crying. Well I went to urgent care again today, had an appt at 4pm. I had to get a refill on the Morphine and the nausea medication because I didn't want to run out during the weekend and get stuck in misery. Well doc looks in my mouth and I have a severe case of Thrush and that is why it's so painful and not improving. I looked in my mouth and it was obvious as I remember when my kids had it when they were younger and knew right away what it was. How the doc yesterday didn't say something is beyond me. I at least have the right meds now and will be feeling better. There's something in the med that numbs my mouth and after one dose feel a great deal better. It's good for them, they get paid for my 3 visits this week when 1 should of been plenty.

So glad you found someone to help - things were getting a bit scary with the swelling. I've had similar experiences with selling things I've made. It's a learning experience - don't give up there are other outlets and your prices are VERY reasonalbe. I think you could bump up the price a bit and your items would still sell.

Hello, Ive finally gotten the time to sit down and write my introduction. My name is Anastasia Hill, I am 19 years old and am the daughter to Sclark73. Whomever asked me about Oil of oregano, I may have "misspoke" (is that even a real word?).
O of O is as effective as chemical antibiotics for GUT issues, not respiratory issues. It is also great to use on a regular basis (like ACV) for overall gut health. Whew! Glad I finally remembered to post this.

That was me - thanks for the clarification, we use Young Living Oils and I have pure oregano oil on hand for the cold and flu season. I already add ACV to their water in the spring and will do it again this fall. Plus I ferment the feed - so may not need to use the O of O, but good info to have.

Colton, I remember you posting that you have meal worms. And I think enough to sell a starter amount. Can you tell me about them? How to care, how many, and price. And are you located far from brandon? Can you mail something like that?...

Hey Cuties and Colton, that would be me. I hope you found the youtube helpful (kind of funny too - darned music gets stuck in my head). Most pet stores should have meal worms, do you have a Mounds Pet Food warehouse or Wild Birds Unlimited up by you? We got our inital batch of meal worms from Wild Birds.

Just grab a handful of the silk and peel that first .. then finish the rest,, You can get all the husk with two pulls.. most of the silk will be gone.. then after the boil, and two cold baths, there is no silk left..

btw, once you get the idea that the silk is not hair, it really doesn't taste too bad..

If you have guinea pigs,, they just love the silk.. and so to the geese and chickens..

BRRRRRRRRR! 40o when I got up! No wonder I can't keep my critters healthy.

On that front, I had a surprise call from the Chicken Doctor, doc Brown. I had sent him an email with a question about Oil of oregano use and he called me! Wow. What a nice guy! Chatted with me like we were old friends and answered all my questions, even gave me great tips about how to deal with my chooks respiratory issues. Who does that these days???

BTW - girls are doing much better but he gave me a tip on how to make the puny Duramycin work if that's all you can get in a pinch (like up here)

Frenchy - do you know anywhere up here I can get oxytetracycline? Trying not to wait a week to get it thru the mail.

I picked up oxy-tet at farm n fleet in rice lake in one of those bags like the duramycin-10 but for the life of me can't remember what the exact name was. I know it cost 9.99 though. I think it was Terramycin with a number after it.

I was cruisin thru Craig's list .. there is a real good buy on a large incubator ..
check out incubator on Wausau C L .. $550.oo

there is also a round metal one for $15.oo.. this is a good buy if you are planning to build your own bator.. those heating elements last forever..

there is a redwood one that they have listed as an incubator.. It is a hatcher.. Very good price on it @ $80.oo.. it could be used as an incubator, but you would have to turn eggs by hand..

Hmmm, maybe I should buy it,, I could rework those trays for manual turning so you wouldn't have to do each individual egg..

Did somebody from on here try to call me from Hales Corners ? try again and leave a message..

I have been watching hatchling #10.. he is out of the shell, but now he is sort of hung up on the edge of the turner.. I guess I better rescue him.. I hate to open the hatcher, but I will take a chance,, I don't see any zips.. can't have that little guy hang himself, can we ?

we have not had a raccoon in the yard since over a year ago.. they don't like tangling with the large dogs.. we can't rule out foxes and areal attacks, but so far we have been lucky there, too..
