Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Frenchie - I went to the Nutrena site and yes there are $2 off coupons on the new Feather Fixer.

For those that don't already know, manufacturers usually only let you print out one, maybe two coupons. Easy way around that is when your printer interface pops up just increase the number of copies. NUTRENA allows one but I just printed off four

Ah...the first day of school...I remember those days. Always seems cool on the first day...it should be 80-90 next week! I kinda miss taking first day pics....I wonder if BigFam is jumping off of her porch doing acrobatics this morning?
Have a good one! TerriO
Looking through those pictures today back to school photos... Some day I am going to get all these photos in some sort of order and put in books. Also loved the pictures of the kids in their Halloween outfits. I made his and her themed costumes for them every year. Was in Costco last week and OMG they have Christmas out...

Also TO have you ever thought of posting in the classified ads of Madcity chickens? I bet you would get a whole lot of inquiries and sales!!

SClark what a good cheesie you are!
BigFamily can I have one of those rum drinks?? Make mine a Pina Colada

Did the UW thing today, always a pleasure. The Frogspawn coral is doing well, now all I need is the Urchin to stop knocking things over!!!! LMiller was an encyclopedia of knowledge on the subject of SW tanks, and she was SO kind to let me borrow her books! I am loving them! So many beautiful pictures and great information!!!

Met the ex-boss for lunch today and then had my much deserved massage! I need one of those a week......

Judi, glad you could get your birds tested. I hope whatever is going on is not serious!

Teri, I would love to join you eating your stew, it sounds delish. I made ham hocks yesterday and today made potato soup with the leftovers. Yum! Some nice crusty bread and you have a meal.

Now I need dessert....

Jim, where are you? You have not posted in a while..... you either BigZ.... and of course DrH..... where are you guys???? CC too..... you have been MIA a bit lately.....

No kidlet yet. I'll take some wine...

With back to school I already miss not having to be awake at a specific time in the mornings, sigh. Night owls don't do well as early birds.

Frenchie, some insurances do cover homebirths; all of them should because they cost about 1/5 as much as a bare bones hospital birth. We self-pay though.

Yes,been wondering how Bigz' daughter is doing with the fires, hope all are safe and sound.

Ok...so I candled the remaining eggs. The duds were 2 SLW, 1 red star (RS), and 2 light sussex (LS). So, through deduction the possibilities out there are one each of the following: SLW, RS, BO, LS, maran, jubilee. That's 6 remaining, 3 of which hatched (and 1 of those 3 that hatched is dead)

Now, here comes the interesting part. I have one yellowish chick and one black with white wing tips, both hatched, alive, and thriving. The dead one that hatched was black. Then there are 3 eggs that when candled (to my untrained eye) looked like there was more than 3/4 full with something that the light wouldn't shine through. One of those 3 eggs, I could clearly see what I'd call an air sack, but the other 2 were solid black. Those 3 I left under the mommas with the 2 babies, the duds and dead have been trashed.

So, IMHO, the yellowish is either a red star or BO as it is more of an orangy-yellow than a white-yellow like the LS would be. The black ones were the jubilee/basque and maran, but I have no idea which is the one that survived. And none of the hatched chicks have striping like the SLW.

Therefore, the eggs are definitely a SLW, LS, and either the BO or RS remaining to hatch.

Was that confusing enough? I hope it comes across to you all like I'm reading it!

Our insurance was intelligent and covered our homebirths...... thank goodness our midwife had the 'insurance rate' and the 'cash rate'.... we did pay for #1 out of pocket. What is the point of having insurance if they do not cover what you want to have done? I am paying THEM in the long run anyway......

Tomorrow Amy, tomorrow.....

When the chicks are ready to hatch they take up the whole egg...I hope you water tested them before trashing.

You've probably seen this one before but, what the hay, it's cute!

Deli- the basque...is it a euskal-oiloa-marraduna-basque? If so, those are also the yellowish color. But if that's the case, I have no idea how I had 2 black chicks.
Yes it is, but it is bred to a Black English Orp and the chicks are black.
