Good foggy morning! I hope all of you early to work ones be careful! I dont usually have to be anywhere before 10 so I am in luck...except for Friday and Sunday this week...those are the last "leave at 6AM days" Thank God! I will miss the lady a tiny bit but I am hoping I can fill in the $$$ loss with the nanny job. (it should be more fun anyhow!)
Yes Connie I am doing some nanny/sitting type jobs...you and your DH should go out for an overnight. Palmyra is pretty far to go for dinner and a movie!
I hope you guys get to meet up at the Portage show. I went 2 years ago with H&R and their family. It was fun. I dont recall there being any charge for parking or entry either. I was actually pretty surprised how small it was for being an "International" show! I did get to see my first large fowl Modern Game. VERY COOL BIRD! I sure would like to have some someday....
Just got a call from an old CL ad. Someone in Western WI lost all their Ameraucanas to a raccoon and a man called that uses their land for hunting. LOOONG story short, he wants to get some new birds for her to start over and get on her good side so he can keep hunting there. (how's THAT for a chicken story?) He said he knows nothing about chickens...
I told him to give my number to her so we could talk...would be pretty silly to take birds there only to find that the coop hadnt been fixed and strengthened! Terri to the rescue! Maybe I should change the name of my business!
There's my little chippy friend! Right on cue. Funny little guy. Since my stock dog passed away a few years ago they have been steadily increasing in numbers. The other day there were two sitting in the food dish eating with the Marans! Brats. Evedently the feral cat doesnt eat chipmunks.
I keep forgetting to thank you all for the well wishes! They worked and that nasty head cold only lasted until Sunday night! So THANKS EVERYONE! I think I am pretty much back to "normal" now. I was a bit out of breath yet yesterday but seem good (so far) today.
Sounds like it is time to go looking for hickory nuts! I keep hearing them falling off the tree and hitting the porch roof. I dont usually get too many from my old tree...the squirrels take care of them for me! I do like to drive and find them though...an activity left from my childhood I guess!
Yes Cind the produce makes me feel so good! Nice to be able to give it away too...I foraged for my lunch yesterday...felt just like one of those Paleo eaters! Just as I was heading into the house a perfectly ripe pear fell practically at my feet for desert! I had to fight off the chickens before they pecked it too much! (it was delicious)
Speaking of...any of you grow or have grown Mangle Beets? They are used often in Europe for livestock feed. My friend (the farm I help at) is growing them and I took a look yesterday. THey are the size of footballs right now and have the most beautiful greens above them. She said they are good too and I picked one and ate it. OMG! It was the sweetest and best tasting beet green I have ever had! These werent young leaves either. They were easily a foot long. THe rib was just as good too. I am planning on adding them to my garden next year. They did not appear to have any pest problems(she is all organic[even chicken feed] there) and the leaves had no holes at all. I brought some home and made DH a salad to go with his dinner. He actually messaged me and said it was delicious! Tonight I am making a wilted "spinach" salad with hot bacon dressing with the rest of the leaves...tomorrow I go back and am going to get more!
OK--time to head out. The beet discussion got me all excited about cooking now! LOL! Have a good one! TerriO
