Maybe I could get a volume discount on a special multiple mount huntress. I wish I had a bigger house with magnum walls....

Later bigz
If I remember right, don't you do some woodworking? You could easily do this mount yourself....I could help with any questions you have. All you need to do is make a panel for a fan mount and add a board in front for multiple beards. If you keep the spurs they can be strung on a wire (like a necklace) and added to the mount as well. Easy peasy and it doesn't take up much room.

Haha you all think I am such a con! I just want the kids ro be happpy and get what they want.iF they are good ;)
Question again.
I have a chick in the sun porch. About 9 weeks. She seemed off this morning. I picked her up amd this watery fluid came put her backend.
What the heck could this be?! She is separate. And has still been on electrolytes. And chick starter. Does anyone have any idea what I cpuld do for her? I habe never seen anything like it.

One of my coops is 8x8. That would comfortably house 6 birds. I would give them the option to go into the run most winter days, but if it's below zero maybe leave them locked up.

Edited to say: Honestly, most people would probably put 20 birds in an 8x8. But it's nice to have extra room for new additions and in case they do need to stay locked up.
Your 8x8 coop is fully insulated then too? How many heat lamps do you have in it? I don't foresee us having more than 6 birds at one time (We only want the eggs). Would you recommend keeping the run in a more sunny area or shaded area? I have plenty of space here and I'm not really sure if I want to put it out in the open or keep it close to the side of my pole shed so it can be used as a wind break? How many nesting boxes should I put in? I've read that they will share nesting boxes but I also want them to be able to have plenty of room inside for those frigid days.

I only wanted 6 for eggs also. I was a little against chickens. But hubby convinced me. Now I am obsessed! And we have about 50! And now also turkeys and quail and ducks....
Make it bigger. I have lots of nest boxes. And they use about 5 of them. Make enough for each to have one. Amd they will alll use one.
I would build the coop in the sun. Ours stays nice and warm in the sun. But in the winter we have moisture issues. And they get frostbite combs. So ventilate it well. In the summer we open the wi dow with a screen. And open the door attached to the barn to keep it cool.

And make it bigger! Lolol

good morning

at some point you might want to get 25 meat chickens.. then you will need a larger coop for awhile.. so you might as well be prepared..

Menard's , Fleet Farm and other stores sell small electric ceramic heaters with fans in them.. cost a little more than a heat lamp but they last much longer and are more energy efficient..

I have mine plugged into a thermocube.. it turns the heater off when the temp gets up to 35F. so you do not need extra heat then ..

my main coop is 12' x 16' insulated .. windows to the south..

another thing to watch for,, make your door so that it swings at least 4 inches above the floor.. otherwise the frozen bedding/poop will keep it from opening..

If you can, pour a cement floor.. make it higher than the surrounding ground to keep water from running inside..

make the bottom of the wall out of 2 tiers of concrete blocks.. this will keep the bottom of your wood wall from rotting away .. and it makes the coop vermin safe .. no animal can penetrate concrete..

this is all a bit costly initially, but it will pay for itself in saved chickens that would otherwise get killed.. and it will last you a lifetime.. my coop is almost 40 years old..

also, suspend nests etc off the floor without legs under them.. makes for easier cleaning ..
i even have my brooder cages suspended from the wall..

make a window or such, removable for tossing the poop and dirty bedding out..

come look at my setup .. I can show you some things that I wish I had not done, too..

Nice visit with CS this morning, I wish I would have been more on the ball though, I would have had something made when she arrived with the troops! My dogs have been spoiled, they have not had that much attention in ages. Jim, your pup is going to be much loved.

Nice sunny day out today. Too bad the weekend is supposed to be so soggy.

Time for the daily job hunt.

this is my main coop nests.. the egg nests are under the brooder pens .. that chicken is standing in the brooder pen.. there are sliding doors on each of the four pens..
the roof is slanted to keep the chickens off.. there are four light switches. one for each brooder pen.. OR I can remove the partitions and make it into one long brooder pen with only one or two lights turned on.. I can accomodate hundreds of chicks in this pen..

there are 10 nests.. the chickens use about 4 of them..
IDK what goes on in a chickens head.

each nest is removable for cleaning ..
I still have not trained the chickens from pooping in them..

this whole nest/pen is suspended from the wall.. no legs underneath ..
