Good soggy evening all

As far as items suitable for planting in this weather, I've planted collards, turnip greens, kale, snow peas, snap peas, some herbs and sunflowers. I'm waiting for warmer weather to plant the cukes and peppers that I've got inside.

Welcome to our newbies. One of you mentioned raspberries...if you come to the bash I might be able to bring some of my unwanted starts.

Theo is trying his hand at being naughty and running into the middle of the landscape fabric (aka new garden space) and lay down while I am trying to get him to come off. I think he thinks it is a game. Other than that, he is exploring his flock to see if they are playmates. So far they aren't playing

. He corrects well with everything, but the garden space. I'm hoping he will understand better when there is a bunch of vegetables in that space! He is noticing noises and strangers during our property/perimeter walks and is watching them very closely.

Well, I'm gonna get out my new dehydrator and read the directions. I've purchased some beets and jicama to make veggie chips.

Feeling TERRIBLE! I had a call ducking hatch yesterday and had some laced brahmas that were due to hatch today. They haven't hatched and the ducking was really crying out in lonliness. So I put him under a broody hen. I checked a couple of times to make sure they were taking to eachother. I just went out again and he wasn't under her! I found him dead in my run.

omg, I am going to cry. What a stupid idea. Never again. We had pheasant chicks come in at work today. I should have just bought 2 of them to put in with the duck for now.

awww sorry..
Thank you! I'll look into the club, I'm always looking for ways to improve my skills. Keeping any animals is a responsibilty, and I want to do mine correctly. My girls rely on me to provide proper conditions and I do my best to give it to them. From visiting other coops I feel mine is much cleaner than others I've seen thus far, so I'm happy to know I'm on top of things. I can fit another 6 or so but I prefer they have space. But I do want 2 Easter Eggers. The possum got the one I had......she was such a sweet hen. The possum, he got an acute case of lead poisoning. I don't normally kill things but this was a territorial dispute. I've looked around a little bit but nothing serious yet...I'm waiting for nicer weather so the new ones can adapt without being forced.
I can hatch you some EE's when you are ready..

lantingMy little milk cartons garden is growing well. ..I need to start more cartons..this weather is horrible and my garden is under water. It looks like transplanting will take a while.
The chickens do not seem to mind the rain..even the chicks are out in it getting soaked. We only had a few flakes of snow..I was happy about that. Nothing stayed.

I was on that site earlier and recognized the fan..
I saved the one from H&R . It is just s little bit bigger than the ones that come with the styro bators but as long as it fits om the space available , it should work..

they say it is a bit noisy.. that is a good thing, then if you don't hear it, you know it isn't working.

Sleet drowned evening all!
Yes, it was raining and sleeting and even snowing good pretty much all day long. Luckily it doesn't stay but it's still nasty to be outside or even just watch the big flake storm come down outside the window.

Heard from a long time lost friend again and am thinking if she just contacted me for help or if she is really interested in our friendship as she is currently looking for a new place to live. Guess I'll find out. Again.

While being in the city again (if you can call it that) til tomorrow I heard we had the power go out at home a few times. And that with one very full incubator going and another one as hatcher will fillings! Was not happy to hear bout that til SO messages me that first one, then another shell disappeared and there were 2 fuzzy things rolling around in the hatcher. Of course he had to name the first one: Chevy. Leave it to a guy... Lol.

Yup planting efforts in this weather are pretty much useless when everything is either flowing away with all the melt and rain OR the ever returning frost is going to kill off whatever has managed to stay in place. Can't win for loosing with the weather this far north!

Sorry to hear about your duckling BBP. Luckily we never have too much time in between our hatchlings so they're not alone for long but enjoy more human contact during that time. Plus a stuffed pet friend of course too.

Still haven't heard anything on finding a female duck for my big boy. I hope the ducklings will grow so I can put them at least next to each other soon. That way at least he won't be all alone.

Gonna head back home tomorrow after another couple of appointments. Am usually pretty glad to get away for a couple of days but this time it seems to take forever for time to go by! Is it Wednesday yet?!
Good night everyone and stay dry and warm.

Kristi, get some horse wrap and wrap that leg if you can (not too tight), that will slow him down. May want to get some bitter apple and spritz the wrap too just to keep him from chewing it off.

Cuties, I have a computer fan in my bator. If you have a 12V one you can usually use an old 12V charging cord to supply power to it (just wire it up).

BBP sorry about your duckling.

This weather is for the ducks.......

To the rest of the newbies too!!!

Who ever was looking for a fan....If you can find a dead desktop computer you could pull the fan.

BBP... so sorry about your duckling.

Well, my other hen turkey has gone broody and she's trying to steel the first hens nest (such as it is) and egg. I'll have to work on that I guess.

That's it..... Night All!

good morning,

I added one cup of water to Marlene's bator.. the humidity went right up to 72%..and holding.

the other bator is at 100*F and holding.. It has the solid state thermostat.. hard to tweak it.
going to just leave it for now.. after I wire in the fan, I will see where we stand..

something that looks like dirty snow on the ground this morning,, more slush looking..
it really makes one want to run right outside and play .. NOT !!

cuppa is about gone.. I suppose I should go feed the birds..or, push Annie out the door and let her do it .. Now, that's a good idea ..

.........jiminwisc.........

ETA:
did go out and fed birds.. not so bad,, the wind is not blowing..

I got the fan into Marlene's bator.. all is plugged in and heating up again..

My egg supplier fizzled out.. He has only 7 hens left and 3 of them are sitting on about 40 eggs..
He said that he needs eating eggs for 7 people, so that sort of takes care of all of his eggs..

If that is not incentive to separate my chickens, what is ?

......jiminwisc..........
