Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Cloudy but sun peaking afternoon!
After a morning of first fog with clouds and then the sun mostly out til bout 1pm it was actually nice. Then the rain came back, light as it was. Evidently it stopped raining and even now the sun is trying real hard to get through the clouds. Oh how good a feeling to know she's still out there!

The duck eggs in the hatcher are probably dead. Had one this morning, rolling around and cracked the shell. This afternoon when I checked it, it had a membrane over both nostrils. Obviously dead. But at least a pheasy chicks is trying to make its way out!

Had opened the gate of the duck enclosure this morning... And OMG! I have NEVER seen my ducks run that fast anywhere! They raced each other down to our "lake" and played there most of the day. A mallard and his female keep coming to visit every now and then too. So cool to see the wild ducks consider it safe enough here to land.

I do have a question: when getting shipped eggs and the air sac is (not all the way) detached do you still put the egg in the bator? No, we don't keep our eggs in cartons to incubate just the egg turner and then without in the hatcher. Would it work or better not even try?

I would say if you paid for the eggs ( and even if you didn't) go ahead and incubate, what can it hurt.

I have 7 eggs in my incubator that I got through the mail that all had detached air sacs. Today is day 21 and 2 of my own eggs have pipped so it won't be too long before I know if the 7 shipped eggs will hatch or not.

What type of eggs did you get?

Jim! JIM!! I GOT A QUESTION!!'

There, I think he heard me. What kind of animal can beat up a goose? I opened up the door on the outbuilding today. Georgie sometimes goes in there instead of all the way into the coop. (The coop is built into this same building). Something beat her up pretty good last night. Her beak is all scratched up, her tail feathers were all bloody, her feet were bloody. Poor Georgie!!!

I take it you would have mentioned if Georgie smelled like skunk

No skunk. One got in there last year, but only the goats were in there. I don't think a Dominique rooster would rumble with her, do you? I have a Moose and Stella baby from CC. I have never seen him mess with Georgie before...?

That's interesting about changing a dog's name BL4. He had a good home I think, they just couldn't deal with his digestive issues anymore. He has had chronic diarrhea, for much of his life it sounded like. He's on Purina EN now which is controlling it. The rescue thinks he has food allergies. I'm waiting to get the rest of his records before we discuss with our vets. Don't wanna upset his balance!
Our two Olde English Bulldogges have serious food issues. The younger one is the worst. We have to go completely grain free to get her to have solid poo regularily. In fact, we were at one point feeding her a feed that had some corn in it and she broke out in tremendous hives as well. Big itchy bumps that made her fur stand up even. Since we went grain free, they are so healthy. Our 13 year old stud is looking much younger than his age. Hopefully your vet can help you figure out his special dietary needs and you can get him on a good regimen. The hardest part for us has been taking our dogs places and having to ask people not to feed them anything.

Doubt it. Moose was a huge woosie. Stella is pretty bada$$ though................. Nah, I still kinda doubt it. How big is Georgie?

Mellie, no S words, now!

CC, you have the most ginormous cats. Ever.
Amy, Puma is ginormous. I have no idea how much she weighs but it has to be close to 20lbs. I have only had her since March. Her previous owners kept her in the basement because she was terrified of their dog. For 2 years. We saw their ad at the vet. Since getting her, she has gotten much more energy & will now run around. Before, all she did was eat & sleep. I have her on a diet & between that and some much needed exercise, she has lost a tiny bit of weight. It is a slow process but it is going in the right direction.

As for my other lunkers, yes the boys are on the large size, but Zoey, the black & white one, is super tiny. She is only 5 lbs. We got her in March also, from Columbia Co. HS. I'm sure you remember it from FB. She was at Adams Co. til they had the fire.

Lutz, it is hard to tell from your pics, but if she seems to be improving, just keep doing what you've been doing. None of her toes just dangle, do they? She can move them? Hopefully she just got a temporary injury.

Hello,

I'm new here. I live near Janesville and just got started with BYC. I have 6 red sex link chicks that are about 4 weeks old. Here's an initial pic of the brooder in the kitchen. It has been moved to the garage.

Here is the a shot of the coop in progress... The hen house of 4'x6'. The run is 10'x6'. It has solid walls over the upper part of the run to try to hide it from the neighborhood...
great coop for a few birds..
