Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Cute puppy Jim!
Gee wish you were closer, I have had two people looking for some guinea hens asking me if I know anyone...

Otherwise my perpetual broody is broody again. I threw a few eggs unr her and hope they are fertile. We will see.
Not much else new. Still have one girl who somehow has broken feathers around her neck. Thought she might be molting at first, but when I look closer, they are broken off, not fallen out... Maybe fighting with someone.

you must have a rooster,, they grab the hens by the neck when breeding.. soon the back of her neck will be bare ..

so far all I mostly have are eggs, there are 6 keets in the chick tv.
I have some full grown guinea roosters I would get rid of..

Hi All!

I got the broody girl locked up with the eggs I want her to hatch. Hope they didn't get messed up. She seemed to like the Lt. brown eggs, I want her to hatch dark brown and blue ones.

BigZ... I don't think fertility is going to be an issue. I have about 30-35 half naked hens and 14 roosters!

I had them sorted out, but I had a "jail break" and haven't gotten them back in their pen.

Guess that's it.... Night All!

Hi All, I tried the "bookmark" method to keep up . . . didn't work. So I skimmed through and I'm sure I've missed some good stuff . . . so much going on with everyone.

Bl4 - Since I skimmed through . . . how's the job hunt going?

how goes it? We have our cabin reserved for the week of Sept 13th - looking forward to a cuppa or two!

New puppies and mega hatching in Jim's neck of the woods - cute little pup Jim.

Welcome to all the newbies - great group here.

Dave - so sorry to hear about your hens. Did the new chicks arrive? We picked up a dozen Black Australorps from Abendroth's on May 5th. They and the four RIR's Kristip hatched for us are doing great. Rod just built them a new jungle gym for the brooder and it turned out to be a big hit!
Now he is retro fitting the big coop for them. They and the big girls will be able to see each other, just not touch. My hope is this will make integration easier when the time comes.

I was really looking forward to hooking up with a bunch of you at the bash Saturday, but the roofing of our house is taking precedence.

Rod's help can only work weekends and he still has two sky lights to get in before the company that will be laying the shingles comes in June..
You know I'm pretty sure retirement isn't supposed to be this hectic

Bigzio I too hope for the bash to go on for years to come. I really want to be there, I love a good camp fire - and the bash fires sound most entertaining

I just popped in to say "Hi!" I've had so much going on since we got back from Italy that I put off going through all the posts I missed while we were away. I hope everyone and gardens and critters are well and happy! We had a fantastic time in Tuscany and we both gained a few pounds in spite of all the walking we did. If you ever have a chance to go there don't pass it up - you won't regret it!

We're in the middle of a fencing project as I am determined to keep the deer at bay this year. It's going slowly because I only get my slave labor on his day off from the WVH every week and sometimes I don't even get that. Garden is going in late this year again for sure.

I plan to make it to the bash sometime next weekend - probably Sunday for awhile or maybe even Saturday night through Sunday. Hope to see you all then!

(If you are interested in viewing more pics from the trip to Tuscany PM me your email address and I'll send you a link to the whole batch.)

Welcome back Irish!! Missed ya.
Miss, you could always get a job like mine ;)
Rberry, would have been nice to meet at the bash. I am showing hubby that cool jungle gym when I go home!
I finally figured out why our Brahmas don't lay well. We have an egg eater! I totally cought them! I will have quite the project this weekend figuring out who it is. Hopefully it is just one. Time will tell if the others picked up this nasty habbit. They have all the goods to eat. And also get put a few times a week into the big fenced grassy area.

Welcome back and beautiful pics - we've been to Eastern Germany and Poland, but not to Italy. Our retirement plan was to rent a place in England for a couple of months and explore . . . then we bought this place and went into the chicken, egg, & produce business. Oh well Europe will still be there. I know what you mean about getting the labor when it's available, one of the reasons I can't make the bash. Sure wished I lived closer, but too far for just an afternoon

Welcome back Irish and glad you had a good time in Tuscany. Btw Europe is ALWAYS worth a trip! Sorry had to mention that as I am imported from there

No need for apology you are quite right - Europe IS always worth the trip. Where are you imported from?

Irish, Saturday is the day to come, that is when we have the raffle and white elephant.

RBerry, the job hunt sucks big time.
bl4 - this is a bummer, are you still getting any hours at UW as an LTE? I'm sending more positive vibes your way . . . can't hurt
