Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I don't see the huge deal with children chasing chickens, pigs, etc. If you were going to try to ban something, why not put your efforts towards large commercial farms? In comparison I believe their living conditions are far worse than a child dragging one during one day of it's life. Do I think children should be taught how to handle a live animal...sure! I think both sides would be more comfortable. :)

I have occasionally carried roos by the feet while doing chores. But only if I see them raping a hen. We keep a landing net next to the barn for any quick catches we might need to make. Perhaps this is why I can have roosters for me our different breeds living in peace.
Frenchie, thanks for the link! I saved it.congratsmon the bday. And present :)
Jim, I am going to attempt the pics.

Pretty sure she said some were being dragged on the ground, being held by their legs and didn't survive. I can tie a volunteers legs to the back of my car and drag them around slowly "for just one day". People have no empathy. My children have been taught to respect all living things (except ticks and mosquitos) and to think about how they would want to be treated before abusing someone/something.
I missed the "didn't survive" statement, I guess.. sorry..
I agree, that is not right ..

Maybe the organizers should provide cages for each captured bird.. or not allow anybody to keep one who does not have a cage ?

some enterprising soul could have a stack of cages for sale right there for the winners to purchase ?

Well out of the 40 Quail eggs I bought 10 have hatched, I was now informed that they are GA Giant Bobwhite. I also have 8 Lavender Guineas, 4 Speckled Sussex, 3 Project SS, 3 EE along with many pips of the Lav Orp, BO.

Got 3 walls up on the new coop, door and wall of glass now to finish the rest.

Going to work on the garage today and get the one wall finished and the garage door.

I can see this post going nowhere in a big hurry ! I guess it's OK since the chickens that are being raised for food to be crammed into areas where they are practically smothered. But they are cage free right ? Or still be alive while they start butchering? After all they are going to die anyway right ! And it's OK that the cows that were being abused at a Wi farm that furnished Digornios (sp) is OK too ! ? After all there here to serve the purpose of providing for humans and that's all right. Never mind that you can look into their eyes and see a soul! Never mind that they bellow when strung up by their hind legs on a fork lift. .oh could that mean they feel pain.....of course not....they're just animals. Never mind that when the are cut they bleed. Hmm could that mean that they are living creatures that feel pain just like you and I. And in case some of you haven't noticed attempts are being made to ban inhumane treatment of animals of ALL types of animals. Because the human race at times are heartless B@$tards ! . Dogs included. Below is a link for those that have blinders on for that one. A life is a life no matter what species and should be treated with respect especially if it's going to be on your dinner plate.

I agree, animals should be treated with respect,

However, animals are not equal to humans..
they do not have the same rights..

when a bear pulls a salmon out of a river, and peels the hide off, that fish is not dead..
If God allows this , then man should be allowed to do similar things to animals..
or does the salmon not have any feelings ?

just asking ..

Ever heard the expression "Nature is cruel but we don't have to be !" I believe that is a quote from Temple Grandon. If we are "the superior" of the animal kingdom then why for God's sake is there animal abuse. I do not agree that we are not on equal ground with animals. Of course as human beings we'd like to think that. If you were of a different species you would think the same. That's the problem...the human species has the ability to think and make choices vs natural instinct. Humans are destroying this planet.oh yeah we are superior all right. Right to the end !

I knew you would have the same opinion that I do on this. :) Exactly why I don't buy meat in the store or eggs. If I can't raise it, hunt it, or buy from someone I know, I'm not eating it. I have to know the animal was humanely raised. We've separated ourselves so far from nature, it's ridiculous. Yes, a bear will eat a salmon live, but they will also kill the weak or deformed within their own species. We can't do that . . . If we have to treat the people on this earth humanely, we should treat everything humanely.

One of the problems is how to define "HUMANELY". Is it more humane to stick a chicken in a box and gas it to death or place it in a cone and slit its throat? Some say that placing the chicken in a box is less humane since it stresses them out so much to be isolated and stuck in a strange place.

If you would like to see events of this kind eliminated, contact those animal protection organizations and your legislators to get the ball rolling.

I agree that all animals should be treated with respect; I equate respect with not keeping more animals than you can afford to keep, elimination of irresponsible reproduction of animals in your care, not forgoing medical treatment when it is needed, keeping your animals on your own property, and if you are raising animals to feed yourself dispatch them humanely.

Good thing it was not a rabbit chase, you would have had dead rabbits for sure.
