carry a spray bottle full of water with you.. when the rooster looks like he is going to attack, spray him in the face,, after awhile all you have to do is hang the bottle from it's handle stuck in your pants pocket.. as long as he sees it there, no more attacks .. hang it on the fence when you leave the yard so it will be handy for your next visit..

Hi All!

2nd son put the motor from one of our "dead" garden tractors on the log splitter. Did about a 1/4 cord of wood and a coupling broke

Hopefully he'll have it fixed before we run out of wood!

I hope to start building the tractor/coop in the next week or two. Then I'll see abo..ut chickens. I don't think I can deal with hatching eggs or raising chicks so I'll look for all-growed-up birds. ;-)

Might check out the spring bird swaps at Beaver Dam or Jefferson.

sorry huntress, didn't mean to slight you,, maybe I figured that bbp would like to know, too..
who knows what goes on in my head ..

from now on I will just post the comment and skip the name.. if it applies, then it is for that person wnomever it may be..

like this: if you are going to get chickens from a swap, make sure that you are not buying old worn out egg layers.. if you are not sure, just strike up a conversation with somebody standing near and ask for their opinion,, don't ask the seller,, we are all liars ..especially at swaps where you will never see that person again soon enough for it to count..

if you are going to use a chicken tractor in a weedy area, leave it on one spot until all the greenery is gone and you have bare dirt.. then move it tight to the edge of the bare ground and start all over again,, Keep a package of grass seed or some kind of cover crop seed handy,, work the seed into the bare ground and wait,, before long you will have nice grass all over the place..
grass and oats grows well together,,

I went to FF to get a 9/16" drill bit,, not a single one in the whole store.. today I will try maynard's .. by the time I find one, I prolly will forget what I needed it for..

Hi, All! I am new to Wisconsin and would like to make contact with locals who sell hatching eggs, specifically Orps, Ameraucanas and Marans. I am tired of getting "scrambled" eggs in the mail and hope to minimize that by picking up or at the very least by a shorter transit time if shipped. I am in NE Wisconsin (near Marinette).

welcome to the chat...anyways I have mixed bird eggs that I can help you out with...it will be three weeks until ready again...I just got done worming....also if you need birds I can get them super cheap...from the amish...so just let me know either way...

I got some new birds yesterday...yellow golden female and silver golden male pheasants and am getting three peafowl today...so I cant wait....I feel like im a petting zoo now...lol






I should also be in a magazine...but don't wanna talk about it yet till its out...got my pic taken with some eggs and the editor of the magazine so im super excited...I will post about it when it happens

Thanks, Birdman. I enjoy the challenge and reward of hatching eggs. It is so fun to see the peeps when the finally hatch. Kinda' like Christmas.

I have made a couple of contacts on here who have the breeds I am after; one is only a 10 mile drive from me! My luck with shipped eggs lately have been terrible. Beautiful pheasants you have there. I am interested in trying to get the melanistic pheasants started on our property here. I have read that they tend to do well in the wild. Will look forward to hearing more about your magazine article.

I believe Bigz has buckeyes? I think that's one of the breeds he has.......
