Vicki- Joe wouldn't even notice if you got Cookie fixed. When does he go on his next work trip???? I am glad that you found her. Also, I am sorry to hear that you must have surgery. PM me on when you'll be having surgery and what you end up deciding on the critters.

x2!!!!!! Vicki, get her fixed when he is away and be done with it. I agree with cs that he won't even notice. He can't expect you to go traipsing all over in the snow searching for her. Especially not now. You have enough challenges.
And if you decide you need to downsize some of your blues or gold laced, please let me know. I'd be interested in any of your orps & I'm sure my sis would like more silkies if you have to rehome some.

ETA- Jim is correct about being cautious when buying adult birds. You might get stuck with old birds that are near the end of their laying ability. And POL (point of lay) birds can be expensive. Everyone wants those because they don't have to wait to get the eggs. You might want to look for older chicks but that's just IMHO.

Afternoon...nice and sunny here today. Fired to stove after church and with the sunshine coming in the windows, it's 78 and prolly gonna get a little warmer than that. It beats being cold for sure!

Yep, I have Buckeyes and so does delisha. Mine are just starting to lay again, and when it picks up a little more, I'll be collecting for hatching. I'm not sure what delish decided to do with her birds. She might have something available now.
I need some young birds added to my flock, with the youngest birds here already 2 years old, it's time for more.

Well, Dad fell down 2 stairs today. He is sore, but doesn't appear to have any broken bones. He basically hit the stairs with his lower back. He said that his feet just slipped out from under him as if there was ice. I looked but couldn't see any reason for him slipping. I wonder if there had been slush that his clothes wiped up.

Otherwise, it is quiet here and on BYC.

It was a beautiful day here in Wausaukee. Perfectly sunny without a bit of wind. It was still cold though! I am not quite acclimated to these temps.

So, question for you all. What are your thoughts/feelings on setting porous eggs? Has anyone ever had one hatch? Asking because I am wondering if I am wasting my time with the eggs I have in the bator.

This has been a great winter...so far. 90% of ground is bare. Chickens have been loving it. Hoping the folks who wanted the LB rooster call this week...or its heading to freezer camp. They free range all day & put themselves to bed. The BCM roo I'm keeping and the LB apparently went at it hard. Appears the BCM took the worst of it...but was still standing. Otherwise they are all loving this weather.

I have been able to keep digging ( working ) through the winter...and spare time cutting wood as been a breeze.
Mother nature is balancing out for last winter. Far enough ahead on the wood pile...I think I can turn my attention to some
habitat cuttings.

Chikenscratch, a nurse recently told me that when older folks fall inexplicably, it's "often" due to a urinary tract infection. For some reason in older folks the UTI causes balance issues instead of the "usual" symptoms.

Been hearing too many stories of falling through the ice lately. My SOs brother and friend fell through Lake Michigan with a four wheeler, my cousin saw a truck go through lake Poygan, and now today my hometown lost a man and 8 year old son to Lake Winnebago. I couldn't imagine. It's just not that cold and you never know where the soft spots are.

I hardly ever wear shoes in the house and I have slipped on the stairs a few times.. never fell, though. I did walk down the stairs in the dark once and thought I was at the bottom,, started walking as if I was on the floor and fell off the first step,, Now I turn on the lights.

the soft spot on the ice is often on the head of the driver.. Winnebago claims a car or two every year.. there are a couple of trucks here in Lake Wausau that they never have located.. luckily, there are no bodies in them,,
