Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I am tempted on the buckeyes, but really can't do it at this time. I don't even have the coop built yet. Before I get something that valuable, I want to get some hatchery birds and make sure the birds are safe from predation.

Sunny and cold this morning. Sitting at -6 right now. That little bit of a breeze doesn't help, but it is cold out there.

The pup is really wound up, I need to figure out how to break his nipping habit, my hands are just tore up. He has also found his bark and has been practicing on the cats. Poor kitties.
when he bites, take him by the neck and pin him to the floor,, hold him there until he submits, then let him go,, He will almost assuredly bite again and then pin him again,, it won't take him long to put two and two together..

BBP, I will be going to the pullorum tester seminar in Hancock, along with sclark. Finally will get to meet another BYCer in the flesh!

Showed a chilly and breezy -14 around 8am. Brrr but at least it's gonna go up a bit again for a few days. Just don't want it to linger longer than needed...

Had a turbulent weekend with the brat being back and then his dog getting sick. Wouldn't eat or drink, just lay around. Then on Sunday he started throwing up, continuing into Monday when the brat took him to the vet (on my urging).
Vet said he had lymes disease and got IV and meds for it. The brat went back OTR on Tuesday but his dog would stop puking, adding diarrhea to the mix while still not touching food or water. Back to the vet yesterday (where he "prettied up" the vet and his office in a 3 H&R time frame) puking and pooing all over the place. Got IVs, an allergic reaction to more meds, more mess... Found by accident greenish/blue colored poo (sorry for the visual) and finally figured he got into some mouse/rat poison too. More meds and IV, then back home. He got another appt on Friday morning for more fluids

No, we don't put out any poison as we know the nice will eat it, the birds eat the nice, and then we HAD birds. So no, no clue where he found it, but glad it's out of him and he can start to recover.

Other than that all is well, birds are all separated and doing fine, still giving us a dozen (duck) eggs daily with the chickens starting up again too.

on egg overload here. And my Khaki girl is loudly complaining of being away and separate from her friends. All day long. Breaks my heart, but don't have another Khaki girl to put in with them :(

So will be heading back, more dog blankets in tow, and heeding the things to come.... Later!

Aw Sam, hope the dog will be kk.
Dreamer, also keep a toy in your hands at all times. That way the pup will learn to grab a toy instead of you. Good luck!
Cold here too. Glad it is supposed to be the last day of cold for a bit!

I have a few Buckeye hens that are in quarantine and being doctored at the moment. Will possibly need a home once health is in order. Along with a few other breeds rescued if anyone is interested pm me please for details.

I have quite the overload of chicks/ducklings going on right now. Did a head count yesterday of the ones in the house and I'm at 78. Crazy I know! Of my shipped eggs I ended up with 4 German line New Hampshires and 5 Buff Brahma Bantams out of 45 eggs. My BBS Orp eggs will be shipped Monday and not sure on the eta of my SFH eggs. I also have a batch of CCL chicks yet to come from Papas Poultry and another batch of SS chicks coming from Lancaster waiting on eta for both of them yet.

Nothing much going on here, just hatching away and praying for spring to come as fast as possible. Seems like this winter is dragging on so slow or I'm just too darn impatient.

I also still have 3 kittens looking for a home. They are about 3 months old. One female is black/white and the other siamese along with a male siamese. I can get you photos if you'd like to see them. Been in the house and socialized well with people and my grand daughter so used to be pulled and tugged on without any mean behaviors.

Quote: Is this a lifetime certification? If so, I may go. I have a tester close to me, nice guy, does a good job and with both of us working it goes quick. My only fear is that he will stop doing it and I'll be left with no one in the area.

From my understanding the certification will last for 5 years, it used to be only 2 years but they changed it last year.
