My hatch is officially over. Well I mean the Easter Hatch A Long anyway
My official count 4 out of 41. Hey what can I say...new Bator that spiked and shipped eggs !=disaster out outcome.
I may have killed a chick intervening but now I know I basically saved the 4 that did hatch. They all pipped but no zip. I decided to open the rest. They were all (of the 24 that made it to lockdown)fully formed but had tons of liquid in the shell that poured out plus a real thick gel type slime around them. Have to go study up on that one. One that did rock in the float test was so weak when I opened it. No way would it have made it. They actually looked swollen and waterlogged.
Any ideas?

Hi All!

Yep, chicks come today! I wish they came with little tags attached so I knew who was what! LOL Expect pics with questions! Got a box set up for the first few days then they go in a pen in the hot tub room. Hot tub is shot but the room has a cement floor, sliding door to the house and a door to outside. Couldn't ask for a much better place to start chicks!

just remember, concrete sucks the warmth out of anything set on it,, so keep the box off of the floor..

Jimbo....ideas as to what caused the slime gel like substance? Could that original spike in temp do something?
One thermometer said 105° and one 109°. There was also tons of fluid in some. Even my own egg was gelled.

Hen or roo? These two BLRW chicks are very aggressive towards one another - they fly at each other and jump on each other with hackles up. Do you think they are roos??

My DH and FIL have been working on building my coop today! The run will be next week, but I'm excited to see what they've accomplished when I get home this evening...
