Momgille, it's good to hear that just a busy life was in the way...dang, life is fragile and we worry when friends are gone for long streaks....hope you can find time for the bash again.

Busy here like always too. Tomorrow is the monthly meeting at camp, and after all the meals I've prepared since the start of lent...it's my month to provide the meal...it will be tasty and goodie for sure, and then I can rest my apron for awhile....except for here with grilling season on the forefront.

Your making me hungry for a nice grilled burger Bigz !looks like I might be combining my Horse fair weekend with chicken business ! Might pick up a pair of dominique's and then some Australorp hatching eggs. Haven't found any lavender Ameracauna down that way though....:(

Afternoon all. We hatched chicks. Pretty neat. The two dozen I bought from Terri O
did not make
it. I fried them with an uncalibrated thermostat. So sad/mad about that. She has some beautiful birds. So I Fixed that and got two dozen more from a lady on Craig's list. Here i

s a pic. Some have feathered feet, some have muffs. They came from brown, blue, and white eggs. I emailed the lady to ask what breeds she has. Wasn't curious before hatching, now I am. Waiting on word. Set 24. 18 made it to lockdown. 15 hatched.
I also hatched 5/6 shipped lavender ameracaunas. I dropped one last week while candling. Put wax on it. Didntvmake it . Here they are.
And I hatched a few of my own golden sebright x OEGB mix. 4 of those total. All different set days and hatch days. I made the mistake , well what I read was a mistake, of putting them in as they were laid so they all were at different stages but they all hatched fine.

Had to do some shuffling between the mini and our homemade coolerbator, during all the hatch days but it really worked great. The first bantam I hatched was five days older than the rest so I felt bad for him and went to TSc and bought him 6 Banty friends. He looked lonely right? I think I know what some are but a cpl are a mystery.
Mottled Cochin Bantam?

Feathered feet. No muff. No idea

Muff. Smooth leg. No idea

Buff Cochin bantam?
Been busy hatching, celebrating our youngest's birthday. Made him a from scratch carrot cake. And we adopted two ducklings.
Here is the whole chick crew in the brooder

Hope everyone has a good evening. Ang

Ang! How cute :) how did they all take to those waterers? Can you tell me the process?

French ie, I hope you have better luck.

BigZ, you are so right about the coop ;)

Hatched the first Light Brahma chick of the year!

Having to rethink original plan I had when I started layers. Out of my small flock of 7...including rooster...only 2 layers as the rest have gone broody.
Broodys are currently in meat coop. And they ( broilers ) will be arriving 5/15. Going to get way to complicated, and I'm to tired to figure it out tonight.
Rooster & 5 hens was ok. Rooster & 2 hens is not ( hens are taking a beating ). Will not have a large flock....and have no issues butchering.
I think if my goal is to keep only a small flock...then the Roo has to go.
Enough rambling....congrats Apow!

Aw Kildare remind me which roo you kept?
If you want less broody, keep a wire rabbit pen in there. And the minute you see them brood, put them on the wire. Breaks it lickity split :)

To long of a day Cuties..so what is the wire rabbit pen? I kept the BCM roo, and the OE roo ( simply because he does not crow or mate ).

BCM broody hatched 4/5

LB has about 10 days ( I think ) to go ..sitting on 5 eggs

OE went broody yesterday....3 oe eggs

Cool posts today from everyone.....Ang the chicken math is working it's best by you. Great job with everything from brooders to hatching. Gotta love the avatar!

Congrats on the brahma cuties...way to go!

That is a great start glarner...you will be having fun soon!

Kildare..yours is the story of my life it seems!

Frenchie...sure hope you manage a great hatch soon. I'm sure, you do too!
