Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

LOVE all the pictures of the hatches!!!

Cuties, these birds are very active and hard to photograph - they are the 3 oldest of those I got from you. Can you tell the gender at all? First four are the two youngest (in the foreground) and last three are of the eldest.

Jim you amaze me with how many you incubate. I am excited that there are 19 in my incubator. three were clear and tossed and the rest had air sacks and dark the rest... they are mostly darker brown or green/blue eggs so I cant see alot at this point. They went into lockdown at this point.
DE question... I had to order some since I went to Farm and Fleet and they had non food quality DE only. I am putting a sandpit in a corner of my run. (big tube of sand) and going to add some DE to it. Is there a ratio? Does too much DE hurt? They were trying to dig up the yard last night so I need to get one put together this afternoon for them!

As for Mom...it is a rollercoaster. She was horrible last Wednesday when I went there, better on weekend that they were going to send her home on Monday and then Monday her heart went erratic again so they put her in cardiac rehab to see what she could do. Did fine Tuesday/Wednesday and I guess her breathing is wonky today... not sure our plan, but trying to do a rummage next weekend when my last sister is flying in ( we will have decisions to make since Mom probably cant live alone anymore... especially in a three floor condo!) We also acquired some old things from her boyfriend and alot of old thing she wants to get rid of so if anyone knows an antiquer/junker who would give fair prices... and would travel to New Berlin area... we have carnival glass, old asian table and vase, old typewriters, 1930 depression dishes.. we want more than rummage sale prices so trying to figure this out. She has this gorgeous shelf she wants to get rid of and we dont know if it is victorian or reproduction... but so pretty. anyway... family is a roller coaster and trying for normal with the kids... they keep getting mad that I dont want tons of friends over or sleepovers...who knows when I need to drive down for something. sigh...

Focusing on those chicks hatching soon! Lets see how the brinsea did. Had to fill water in it weekly because humidity would dip, but otherwise seemed easy... lets see if anything hatches and if they all do... find some homes!

Hugs to you Kristi. That is a very rough spot to be in.

My mom is trying to empty her house that she has had for 60+ years. It is a monster and packed to capacity with stuff. She has quite a bit of older stuff too & has taken some of the better stuff to consignment stores. What she has told me is that they are not interested in much of any glass, especially depression since it is not selling well & they already have a lot of it. I think consignment stores might be a good option for you but try to shop around if at all possible since they all take differing percentages. There is one here in Muktown that wants 60%! Criminals. Antiquers are criminals too. They want to give you a dollar so they can turn around & sell it for $20.

Your best bet to get the most $$ for your stuff usually involves your time and effort. Flea markets & other large crowd-drawing rummage events are the best bets (along with Ebay & maybe CL). Mukwonago has quite a few every year at Field Park on 83 & NN, and it isn't far from New Berlin.

As for DE, I don't think there is a set ratio. I have an old metal wash basin I use for a dust bath inside my coop. I think I have 1 of those sand tubes in it. I tossed about 4 scoops of DE in it. I buy the 30 or 40lb. bags of DE at Tractor Supply. I don't think it is food grade but it is for livestock. It is grey in color. It is extremely powdery & coats everything in dust but they seem to like it. Just mix it into the sand real good. I also sprinkle some in their outside dust bath area which has sand, dirt & wood ash. I don't add as much out there as it floods when we get a lot of rain. HTH

Aw, Kristi. Tough for sure.
Irish, I am seeing a lot of girly action there. It is a little hard to tell with them in the pen. The females in my line tend to have neater more filled in feathers at that age. And longer tails.
Either way I am seeing good color!

jamie duckworth, good shepard, and marvin stukel are the three lines that i got....they are show quality...these parents have been showed all over the us....and for what i paid for them with papers they should be show quality....im hoping...but i have seen pics of the parents and they came from people that show birds...

Cuties, did you have some polish blood get mixed with your OE?

My broody OE.....refused to move to another coop. Put her back in the layers coop....come home and she is in empty nest next to her nest box.
DW is 100% Pollock....and every time I talk to the OE about what she is attempting to do.....I swear she is answering in polish. I might have to send DW out there and see if she can talk sense to this broody.
