Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

when I was a kid we called those thirteen stripped gophers..

I am taking a break,, put gas into the tiller and it wouldn't start,, sprayed starting fluid into the air intake and it ran until it was used up.. 5 seconds or so.. suspect: water in the carb ?
drained the carb .. then noticed that the gas was not running in,, disconnected the gas line,, gas was flowing .. so I opened up the carb and manually pulled the float valve .. aha !! gas began to flow. put it all back together and tilled garden #2..

I found lots of rocks that I did not see from up on Ollie yesterday,, I hate picking rocks.. of course, Annie HAD to go to town for something very important,, she does not like picking rocks either,

but I will save some for her when she gets home,,

the puppies' eyes are open,,, and they are starting to walk on all fours instead of sliding along like seal babies .. Now Frankie's work is going to start.. she will go in by them, get mobbed and get out ..

Oh my, I feel old...forgot the link I mentioned!

Also, in reference to the lined ground squirrels...gotta see this! Whether it REALLY works or not? I've never tried it...but I have had great "success" in getting them to TRY and swim in a 5 gallon bucket with 3/4 water and a layer of sunflower seeds. No successful swimmers yet

Yeah, thats the thing. They had a video of it working, but, that could have been faked, I guess.

UPDATE ON GIMPY

She now stands on the leg, does pick it up for rest, follows the others around but does not get too far from me or the coop. DDIL dog dug a hole, so when the girls found the hole, they all took a dirt bath, and made the hole bigger......looks like a sink hole started outside my bedroom window.

Thats all right, I'll walk out one day in broad daylight,, step in it, break my leg and that will be that.

Nice day here...almost caught up with the grass cutting and hoping the garden is finished tomorrow. Thanks for supper tonight Cind...the pulled pork is delicious..thanks for sharing it!

Suzie canned 5 quarts of dilled sparegus today along with a couple lbs frozen for the future. Good stuff for sure. Some folks don't care for it...don't know why?

Hope you all had a great day!

I also managed to get winter squash planted today....it take 110 days so I needed to get er done. I planted a new variety I never tried before ( old heirloom) from sandhillpreservation...it's called upper ground sweet potato and hope it does well here...I also planted buttercup my favorite...I held it to 30 seeds total and am hoping for a good crop.

Hope you had a great day...bigz

I did have a great day, too..

I got garden #2 tilled, twice.. then I started on the far end and planted 2 rows of green beans, 2 rows of yellow beans, and finished up the whole rest of the garden with sweet corn,, I didn't count the rows, but I used up just short of 1/2 pound of seeds..

I plant only buttercup squash,, tomorrow that will happen.. and some cukes, and carrots..
I ran the tiller between the potato rows.. Annie hoed between the plants.. I wanted to pull some of the loose dirt up around them, but my back had given out on me hours before already,,
I can take the tilling, just can't walk so far before my lower back kicks out..

Annie was a sweetheart and picked rocks as I tilled.. got about a heaping wheelbarrow full..

Next year I am not going to dig so deep with the drag.. I have a good layer of dirt to play with now..
no sense dredging up more rocks ..

Brent, did you ever make asparagus soup with the tough bottoms of the asparagus ?
I love asparagus soup..

a Hmong lady stopped in a few minutes ago.. she has been here a couple of times before..
she bought all of my guineas last fall.. she wanted to buy some more, but I am not selling until fall..
she wanted to buy the two goats.. I am not ready to sell them for food , just yet ..

maybe soon Sande FT will check in and then I won't have to type such long posts..

Hi all,

Well we had a good day here too- definitely productive as the chicks are out of the house and into the coop! They are quite tiny in the space but were way too big for the kiddie pool.

They already figured out the nipple waterer... didn't take them long. The feeders aren't yet being used but are installed for convenience.

I have included a photo before and after chicken invasion- it turned out pretty nice. The nesting box isn't done yet but we are redoing one that DH's grandpa owned so it may take a while.

As of right now it is a toasty 75 under the brooder lamp- definitely wish it was that nice outside...

This is our first attempt at a coop- opinions are welcome. :) Have a good night!

Hi Everyone! I'm in the process of making my first chicken coop. It's going to be in a barn with a wood floor. I'm trying to decide what type of bedding I should use. I have access to a lot shredded hardwood mulch, but haven't found much iinfo about it as bedding in coops. Otherwise, I was planning on using pine shavings or sand. Any suggestions, preferences?
