Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Certainly is a Monday. Sweated working until 2:00p.m Got rained & hailed on after 2:00p.m.

Came home and discovered the hard way what a fox can do when its gets in the broiler pen.
All dead & gone. Recovered 1 dead one. But could not locate its stash. Will let the crows guide me tomorrow morning. Do not have a set time to be at job sites. Def. prefers the broilers over the layers & their chicks.

Oh gosh Kildare. So sorry.
Busy day at work today! I am beat.
Back at 3 am :/
chickens are growing. And eating. Lol
Siamese Meeshee had her babies ♡ I wish I could show you pictures.

Kildare, so sorry!

Update here: my gang is doing well, getting bigger and eating more every day. They are getting more social with me; yesterday I had two fly up and sit on my lap when I was crouched down in the coop. :)

DH and I also found out yesterday that we are expecting baby #1- moving forward with cautious optimism. :)

Tough to hear the bad news kildare...dang vermin...yep, the meaties would be easy picking. One can start over with them considering they are finished in 6 weeks....however they will be expensive table fare.

Congrats on #1 dustergrl.....are you working on names yet?

My brooder in the spare bedroom is running out of space as the birds grow....I'll be happy to get them out in the coop.

Hi All!

Wow... what a hit on the broilers! How many did you loose?

Congrats dustergrl!

Number 2 son and his wife got their offer excepted on a new house! They will be living about 3 miles from us!! It's a really nice house! Way nicer than I thought any of my kids could get. Very happy for him and the family! They close July 17.

Night All!

Sorry about your chicks, hope you blast the fox.

Was a small batch of 15.

Until this year, never had predator problems. Had updated the fencing on the broiler coop to welded wire.
To hard to describe how the 2 coops sit next to each other....and I can no longer post pics on this site..
But In doing the new fencing/run I forgot to bury wiring along one side of coop. Dug under coop...and easy picking
afterwards. Not a feather..not a drop of blood. DW was certain they were stolen. Until I got home and was able to investigate.

Congrats!!

Bigz if we were concerned about the dollars....few of us would ever raise chickens.

Sorry to hear of the loss of your meaties.

We have "blasted" one fox, but there are still a couple more around.

Congratulations on the "#1s."

Hello again I just wanted to see how everyone is doing. I have been breeding ducks and geese this year, selling the babies and maybe keeping a few.

has anyone been worried about the h5n2 bird flu virus thats going though the states. spreading with wild waterfowl. I have mostly geese and ducks so they cant die from it but they can spread it to others. I did get two turkeys this spring so i hope they will be fine. i do live by two lakes to we have geese flying over us all the time. now they are molting so its not that bad now but i am still worried. I did test my birds myself last year for it as i was bringing a few birds to the fair. so i took a class to test my birds myself and got certified to test my own birds and others. All of my birds were clean last year. but the antigin expires soon so i need to get a new one. and its expensive for 1000 tests and i only need a few.

so if anyone else wants to have there birds tested I can come out and test your birds for very little normaly per bird $.50 per just so i dont have to waste the rest of the antigin again. I am located in south east wi by holy hill or more common washington county area.

if anyone is interested pm me

I will be buying the antigin soon and will buy it if i get enough people to help use it.

You hit the nail on the head about raising chickens.

Sorry Bobi, I don't know what your mystery breeds are. The buff looks a bit too dark to be an orp but I have been wrong before.
