Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Its a home made version. Does a great job. Just have to make sure on the broilers that I don't let scald temp. go above 145...or I'll get some damage.

I work in the Oxford area a lot. Remember road name?

Chickendreams: currently have (1) light brahma (2) black copper pullets

the reason I asked is that I build Whizbang pluckers.. I have made about 18 improvements to the plans that I bought years ago.. I have started building plucker $5 .. It sort of got put on the back burner for awhile..

I have the lady's info upstairs.. I will go get it and PM it to you..

Phone, addy driving instructions etc..

Is yours the kind you mount into a drill ?

this is what I am currently using until I get my whizbang built.. I bought this one over 40 years ago from a chicken farmer who retired.. all I ever did to it was put on a newer motor..

this one gets loaned out to all of the neighborhood.. It only comes home when I go get it..LOL

..
I replaced the metal back splash and table top a few years ago..

there is a 1/4 HP motor on it, I think.. a little light for geese, but if you don't force it, it still will do them.. If I can come up with a cheap 1 HP motor, I will put that on..

I paid $40.oo for this one way back then,, did thousands of chickens with it..
never had to replace a single finger..
there are 130 fingers on that drum,, at 75 cents each, ..

I have also started a drum type plucker similar to this one, only not quite as large..

Firstchic, try this link:

Jim is also correct that different foods can affect the appearance of their poo. Kinda like when the wild birds chow down on too many mulberries & elderberries.

We had quite a few different varieties of peppers all planted in the same garden area one year. Some of the hot peppers were not, and some of the mild peppers were hot.

Irish, I too must applaud you for opening your home & heart to help out a fellow animal lover. Too many times the animals don't get so lucky. Good for you!

Celtic Chick, I did find that website, none of the poo looks like mine(as in Chicken), but the am I did see that she shed some intestinal lining and she is still looking good. Stop the worryworts now.

Thank you for the kind words on the pictures :)
We are crazy. And heading out today to get just a few more chickens lol
Bigz, I found a gal west of us with Light Brahma. We got 3 cockerals to try to add new blood. Hopefully it will help. I do not think they are quite as big and majestic. But I figure at $10 each it is worth a shot at growing them out.
I am so enjoying this part of vacation. I get up early each day and just sit with my coffee watching the birds in the yard. I suppose at 35, I will be waiting quite some time for retirement ;)

Thanks for the info Jim.

One I use is a plastic barrel with fingers ( drum style ).
I hope she has some left for you.. I should have taken a dozen while I was there..

the one I am planning to build will have a 10" PVC drum,, I have the PVC cut to length and some of the other pieces made up.. I am using the body of an old motorized table saw , top removed..

I would like to see a picture of yours,, maybe I can steal some ideas from it ..

we did 13 more pullets today,, most of them were over 4 1/2 pounds..dressed out..
I sure miss my whizbang.. I should get my butt in gear and finish the one I have started..
I like 140 F for scalding.. close to 150 F is OK, but you have to be quicker at dipping ..

And yes Irish thank you for the kindness you're showing we need more people willing to help others and take in animals
"No one person can do everything for everyone but everyone can do one thing for someone." I'm not sure where I heard that or if I even got it right but I give it a good try now and again. Pay it forward.

Hi All!

I took the hen back out to the coop. She beat me out the door to go free range, thou I don't think she's been eating.

Nothing else new.... night All!

Afternoon to all.... good for you cuties, in regards to more fresh cockerels. Hope it works out well for you.

Welcome to the new folks here. Hope you find the cheeseheads helpful.

The gardens are keeping us busy here...as well as vermin like Bobcats keeping my flocks under lockdown....lost 2 hens and the war begins again....

Planning on more V8 tomorrow....today is prepping all the veggies that go in it...that is a one day job by itself...we cook it for 4 hours with the maters...then it takes hours to cool enough for processing.....big job...but...hands down the best V8 you ever tasted.

Have Fun...bigz
