Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I separated out a trio of bantam chocolate orps today. A chocolate hen, a chocolate cuckoo rooster and a white hen that came out of a cuckoo pen. I have some orders for cuckoos, so thought I better get on the ball.
My LF orps are a mess. I have one gold laced hen a chocolate rooster, a hatchery buff, 2 lavenders and 2 blacks. The black and lavender hens are over 5 years old, so I really don't expect to get chicks out of their eggs.
I also have a bantam chocolate orp rooster in with my silver penciled wyandottes. I haven't commited to buying those girls a wyandotte rooster yet.
I can't seem to keep a splash cochin alive, so my lemon blue project never makes any great progress.
Very excited for call ducklings again this year though. I just need to get a cabinet incubator so I don't have to have all 4 of my incubators plugged in.

I remember the Treasure Island store in Madison. Coming from the southwest corner of the state, it was a big deal to go to Madison and Treasure Island for our annual school shopping. We would usually go to Dubuque.

Did the store in Madison have the crazy roof? Remember their slogan? ....'Under the squiggly roof of Treasure Island!'

Light snowy morning to all.... yep, I remember the Treasure Island in Appleton...the fresh popcorn smell was the first thing that hit you when you walked in that store.

Nope Cind, it's the weekend after memorial...this year it will be June 3,4, and 5.

Bagged up 8 full quarts of sauerkraut yesterday....very crispy the way I like to eat it raw by the forkfuls....and it gets super tender when used in baked dishes.

I should throw some more wood in the basement....I still have prolly 11 faces down there, but it would give me something physical to do...cabin fever is setting in here.

So what is the bash?
The bash is an annual affair for the cheeseheads.
It is a potluck Friday to Sunday campout..
You don't have to camp out because there are two rooms full of bunk beds.
Some people bring tents, some bring their campers, I bring my Blazer and sleep in the back of it because nobody can stand my snoring.. they say, but I don't think I snore.

there is a nice fire pit where we spend all night sitting around it. talking and telling jokes and even might have a beer or two..

there are plenty of nice couches and overstuffed chairs in the lodge, a fully outfitted kitchen and large dining room.

we have a white elephant sale, and door prizes.

some people come for all three days, some come for just a day, come and go as you wish,

lots of plants and chickens are traded.

I think this is the 6th annual ?

I know I did not tell it all, but somebody can fill in the blanks.

there will be a thread started soon telling more about it. watch for it here.

Tossed a face cord in the basement...there, now I feel better.

Yep, that explains most of it Jim....we will start a thread explaining all the details...there is also a raffle for stuff that folks bring to help pay for the facilities...and a nice play area for the children to play as well as 60 private acres where the kids can run loose and have fun. It's held just north of Clintonville....so mark your calendar in hopes of being able to attend. We will also need to decide on the Pizza cutter too.

Forgot to mention that the treasure island in Appleton also had the ruffle roof.
Good thing my head is attached....I for sure would misplace it otherwise!

Popped some air corn for the hens to fight over....they know what's coming when they see that brown bag. It gives them something to do, as well as me. Gotta love those pretty hens!

Quote: I don't remember that TI as we lived in Thiensville at that time so went to the one in Brown Deer but I sure remember Leon's! Also remember Solly's best ever burgers, Anchorage great seafood, and because dad worked on 3rd St sometimes we'd get to go to Mader's for German food. Hmmm now I'm hungry.
