Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

good afternoon,

I got the snow plowed and the mailbox built and set out by the road..
I did try to drive in the 4x4 post holder, but the frost is too hard.. I got it driven in far enough so that I can't pull it back out.. It can stay that way till spring.

I told Robin, our mail carrier that I would have the box up by tomorrow.. she said she would miss seeing Frankie. She loves our dogs.

I was running on two cups of coffee and two cookies all day. I just had a good hearty breakfast for supper of broasted chicken, baked beans and potato salad.

Speaking of a "middle man" selling poultry; I got my Stromberg's catalog today. I can't believe they can even stay in business with their prices. Broilers for $3.50?! You can get them from Sunnyside for under $1.50. Do people just not know any better? I did see a pair of blue wing teal is $100. That doesn't seem too crazy. lol

I never knew it was so hard looking for quail around here.... im not ready yet. But did I miss anything a few yrs ago about quail? It was really easy to find eggs or birds. Now it seems like theres nothing around anymore...?

Quote: Jim they are day olds... the only way I could swing ordering the 25( gosh would that be fun) would be to sell them around Madison or to others who would go in on orders. I only need about 5 new birds myself...and we do love hatching...and we still would like to try our hand at either broilers or raising our roos...we tried last year and the pen we cobbled together was raided by Coons. Husband is even on board for trying roos again. But our two weeks vacation at beginning of summer might put a cramp in everything...so we will have to see how it goes. I suppose we can raise the chicks early enough that they can all live in the big coop while we are gone. Just cant have neighbors and friends feeding 2 or 3 differents coops...that is just a pain.

Any breeds I should be trying this year based on good egg layers, semi friendly breeds(not attack chickens), pretty eggs and finding hatching eggs locally... My daughter is clambering for another silkie since we lost ours last summer ( she was 5)... love them but with limited space we could only do one or two... sigh...need a bigger coop. lol

I am fairly local to you Kristip! I just ordered 25 birds from Meyers due to come mid February. I ended up filling in the order with a half dozen of the brown layer assortment just to meet the shipping requirement. If you are interested I can modify the order if you would want to go on me with it. PM me if interested.

Windy Day here today. Nothing much new here either. The APA just announced that the new Standard of Perfection is at the printers and will be available sometime in March. They are taking orders in advance and will ship as soon as they are finished printing.

Send payment ( $59 ) includes shipping to

APA
PO Box 306
Burgettstown, PA 15021

This will be the 44th edition

I'm debating on whether or not to order a new one. I donated one in 2010 to the local Library...maybe I'll check with them first, and see if it has had much use.

Yep, BBP it's hard to beat the prices at Sunnyside...even for hybrid chicks.

Stay Safe...bigz
