Here is the photo I tried to load the other day. Look close and tell me what you see.

Snowy Morning here to all...good 2 more inches of the light white stuff.

Blood spots can be caused by a variety of reasons, and for the most part it's the hens fault. It does not have anything to do with the egg being fertilized. It's caused by a rupture of a blood vessel on the yolk surface during formation of the egg or by a accident in the wall of the oviduct. I'm not a fan of adding light during the long Winter days. This forcing way to promote laying has downfalls in my opinion. While egg numbers are up now for those that do, that will change and statements like my hens are burnt out, when they should be laying during long summer days will be heard. Mother Nature works best....in my opinion. I don't have chickens for eggs sales or profit either.
Just my opinion.

drive safe...slippery out there.... bigz

Brent and I are always on the opposite side of the light issue.
to me chickens are expendable, so I am willing to forego their long life for better egg production.

I am not about to feed chickens all winter without them paying their way..

special blacks will not produce any longer, with or without the lights.. they are good for only two seasons and that's it.

so choose your own medicine and happy chicken raising.
