Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

New here!!

Looking at getting the kids a pair of ducks. Someone suggested at least 3 (1 male 2 female) just in case something happens to one & one on one can be hard on the female.

I am looking for calm/quiet ;) ducks. I am THINKING maybe Welsh Harlequin or Cayuga Ducks?

I am shocked on how hard it is to find someone that sells ducks in my area :(

Can I ask why you do not have ducks any longer?

I downsized everything.
I had geese, peacocks, ducks, quail, guineas, chickens and turkeys.
I got rid of everything but a pair of geese, 6 guineas and a dozen chickens.
when I downsized, I had 72 muscovy ducks.
they all went into the freezer. I had 12 geese, they also went into the freezer. I sold all the rest.

ducks in with chickens is a messy proposition. the ducks think their mission in life is to see how fast they can empty a waterer. not by drinking, but by slobbering and splashing. this makes it very messy for the chickens.

outside the ducks are a hoot to watch. they tame down very easily and make good pets..
Muscovy ducks do not winter well.. they freeze their feet.
any other duck does OK with cold weather.
your choices of ducks are fine. my next choice would be Pekin. Easy to obtain ..

I just do not want to have ducks to winter over. and we do not really care that much for butchering ducks . so it would mean trying to sell ducks in the fall, not the best time to be doing that ..

I'd sell 3 of our call ducks. 1 male 2 female. I'll attempt pics. Pm if you're interested
