Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

good morning,
I was to Menard's and back.. bought a pump duster.
in a little while I will go out to the potato patch and try it out with DE..
I was quite windy awhile ago.. I want the dust to fall down, not blow across the field.

I hope this stuff works.. Annie picked another 520 bugs off of the potatoes.. I am surprised that the plants still look as good as they do..

Nice day in the country today. Good for you guys that grew up with it (trappin) my dad did when he was younger, but never showed the kids anything about it. It is quite overwhelming when you read and try to soak all the stuff in. It's more involved than placing a trap on the ground...as you know.

Dirty awful deed of cutting grass today....I can't imagine folks that actually water their lawn...duh!!

Feeling chatty today

Hens are going to be 14 weeks on Monday and already thinking about what we may add to the flock next year. Have the buffs, the ees and the rock... thinking if we add two chicks on next year for a count of 7, two more in '18 for a count of 9, and two more in '19 for a count of 11, that fall would bring the butcher of the first ones. Maybe not all 5 of the original set but at least a couple? If we add on at a rate of two a year, does it make sense to have one a high production like the buff or rock and one more egg color based? Also wondering about Marans if anyone has them.

I'm getting black copper marans in the next week! I'm so excited for the dark eggs. The ones they hatched from looked like milk chocolate bars

Took a drive to the Mother Earth News Fair today. It was a lot of fun! I got to drive a tractor for the first time! So many fantastic ideas..... and no land to do any of it. :( I did come home with a purse made from old mail and seed bags, a basket woven in S Africa, and a book on cordwood construction. :)

I guess I will keep playing the lotto.
