Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Ole sleep head here,

I have been on the web since 6AM.
I am researching a 3 point disc hiller for potatoes.
after about a week of searching, I think I found all the parts I need to put one together.
To buy one would cost about $360.oo.
I can build one for about $100.oo.
Plus it can be used as a trailer hitch for a trailer.
and I can also make it into a potato digger with a buster plow.
plus, if I wanted to, I could make it into a one row cultivator.

so far, a 4 in 1 tool.

Morning all. I thought I just might get on here before Jim this morning and it seems ole sleepy head is in bed still.
Well one of my blk orps adopted the speckled sussex eggs I got in yesterday! And my lav orp has passed on. Since I've now had 2 die, hopefully no more, what should I look for in the autopsy? My lav orp almost seems to have had a sour crop. She was drooling so I tipped her quickly upside down a few times to get the stuff out, but when she gave out this morning she had a bunch of liquid (some clear and some cloudy) come out. I did a check yesterday for impaction and couldn't feel an egg.
That's what happened to my Olive egger exactly

It is almost impossible to figure out what chickens die of
So many of the symptoms are so similar.
chickens just "wear out" and die. some old, some young.

sometimes the symptoms you find after they are dead or dying are not what caused their death, but rather a result of something else.

when I find a dead chicken in the coop, I say aww siht, and throw it into the dumpster.

no sense in beating yourself up over a dead chicken.

Thanks Corey & Jim. I did end up tossing her into the garbage can as I know I can't figure ot out. The visible things (mites, infections, worms, etc) aren't present and since my birds are old it could just be old age. Who knows. The one thing this has taught me (or rather verified) was that I'm not gonna just let my birds age out. I had determined only a fews days ago, oddly enough, that I needed to cull my old birds except my good broodies, and get a fresh stock going. Moving forward, I'm going to cull regularly and replenish frequently to avoid these issues (potentially). Maybe G*d was helping me select my culls? LOL.

except in rare occasions, you will not find any chicken over 3 years old here. Roosters tend to last the longest. I let one or two go on as long as they like..
my present one is about 4 or 5 yrs old.

Dang chilly damp one here today...hoping for some sunshine before I become crabby from all this transition weather. Let's get into sunny warm weather before long. I really need to get the butcher hat on...maybe tomorrow will work for me, but not so much for the young roo's.

The wood fire sure feels good in this damp weather.

Cajun chicken tonight with sweet corn and cheezy potatoes....warm ho-made rolls will also be enjoyed tonight.

these pigs are so cute. I hope they warm up really well to us. I'll sire once they're older and get some veggie scraps and treats they'll learn to love the heck out of us. I like that we can pick them up and hold them now...better enjoy that while we can. Corned beef n cabbage n taters n carrots tonite in the pressure cooker. Wife had her wisdom teen taken out on st pattys day so our meal is a little late but I can't go without
