Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Finally finished our pre-approval for our new home....... it will be so nice to have some room to spread out on........

Job is going well! It is so odd to go from working in a manufacturing facility to corporate offices! I know I will adjust, but it is a pretty big learning curve.

Anyway, thought I would pop in and say hello while I am home.  :D

Congrats!

Power is out here. I'm not sure how long eggs in lock down can go without heat? I've covered the bator with a blanket to keep the heat in. It's been an hour already and expected to be another hour according to ComEd.

Dug a trench yesterday across the back yard (to help with drainage), poured pea gravel, layed piping, and covered with remaining gravel. Too tired to cover completely.

Some friends gave us a bunch of perennials, so those need to go into the ground tomorrow too.

Wow, no Jim post????

Power was off for 2.5 hours, but it doesn't seem to have made a difference. I covered the bator with a blanket and by the time the power came back on, the temp only dropped 10 degrees. Now, I have 6 eggs rockin'.

I'm so jealous. I wanna incubate some eggs so bad but just haven't gotten to it yet.

good afternoon,
Jim has been busy working on the 3 point hitch on Ollie.
came to a screeching halt on Easter sunday because I couldn't go to F&F for bolts.
I got there first thing this morning.
Plan A is back in the works, along with plan B.
I might get it all put together today, yet.
If the garden is dry enough, I just might do a little test run.

My incubator ran out of water. I was expecting it, so it wasn't out for more than a couple of hours. the humidity dropped only a few
%'s.. nothing to worry about.

lockdown is about the 21st. if I don't forget.
I am not going to raise the hum%.
I think 47% will be high enough, and once the chicks start hatching, the hum% should go up on it's own.

break is over. back outside for me..

ETA:
I got plan A done. hooked up the cultivator and took Ollie for a ride.
The garden looked wet, but not muddy so I took a chance and did a short trial run. It went OK. so I took another , then another. finally I decided to try to do the whole garden. It went very well..
As long as I was out there, I decided to turn the composting cow manure pile over.
That went perfectly, too. It is nice and black underneath. on top was the straw and chicken siht from last fall's cleaning. that should be well composted by the time I need it for the garden.
6 eggs today.
cowboy beans and BBQ's for supper tonight.

Congrats bl4 on finding a place in paradise....how about some pics girl!

Getting ready for turkey hunting. Put 2 tents up today and prolly place a third one tomorrow.

Good luck with the project Jim. Hope it saves some work in the end.

worked in my asparagus patch tonite. Raked it all out and planted 16 new roots. Then covered it in about 4" of straw. Hopefully that takes care of my weeds and crap before they really start

Hi again,
years ago when my asparagus patch ( one looong row) was flourishing I would pickall of it, then I immediately mowed it along with the lawn. sometimes I would run over one that was just peeking up out of the ground, but usually it didn't kill it. It would just grow with a bent neck.

Brent, when does the turkey season start ? Bro Dave was here yesterday and he didn't mention it. Not like him..

the tractor project is going fine. I ran out of gas on the way back to the house. after supper I took a can of gas down and started the tractor up. as long as I was down there, I plowed the lower garden, too. not the whole garden is plowed.
by "plowed" I mean that I use the cultivators like a chisel plow.
since I removed all the teeth and replaced just two behind each back wheel, I can plow only about 24 inches at a time.
but that is the same as a double bottom 12" turning plow would do.

I am expecting my two hilling discs and my 3 point trailer hitch receiver this week.
then I will have to get a couple of mounting brackets welded up.

I have about 15 or so asparagus poking up right now. My daughter has been turning over a new leaf and being a very good little helper. The shiitake are STILL producing. Rhubarb is going nuts. How long before I will see any growth out of potatoes? Not expecting it just yet, but would like to know when to watch for it.

good morning,

don't expect to see any potatoes popping out of the ground for at least 10 day to 2 weeks. then step back so they don't poke you in the eye when they start to grow.

i am anxious for my parts to show up.. I am mentally building the hiller and mentally trying to determine the proper spacing apart for the discs to make a perfect hill..
I have found nothing on utube that gives me any indication.
ONE guy said to turn the discs at 45 degrees and have the space between the disc blades 10 inches.. that's some place to start, I guess..

Most of the utubes were made in Texas. doesn't look like any rocks in any of those gardens..
I drag up rocks every time I go through with the cultivator.

what a busy day here.
my discs and my 3pt hitch came with the UPS guy this morning.

Now I have to go down the road to the steel yard and get some plate steel to make some mounting brackets.

I transplanted 13 tomato plants that DD Barby gave to me. all Roma's.
her pots did not have any drainage holes in them, I put them into square plant starting pots.
I still have about 10 more to transplant.

one egg today . WTH ??.
