Calm before the rain morning to all. Turkey season starts tomorrow Jim...the youth hunt was last Sat and Sun...for some reason, the DNR moved everything back one week. Usually this would be the second season starting tomorrow. I think it is a bad decision to move it back to this late of start. But what do I know? I'm just a stupid hunter and has no clue about nature and biting insects.

Cut a load of wood this morning, and it was plenty warm swinging the saw.

Most of the utubes were made in Texas. doesn't look like any rocks in any of those gardens..
I drag up rocks every time I go through with the cultivator.

Eggs still at a steady 5-8 a day from the 8 layers. Think one may have gone broody again, a buff. She was puffed up and growling yesterday at the others and now her butt is plopped down in the nest again. Why couldn't she have done this two weeks ago when I got the chicks? Planted 4 raised beds yesterday to see if I can get a 40 day crop in around 40 days using the low tunnels. Double duty as the girls have figured out that they are optimal dust baths and that would be bad where I have planted. Spent half the evening shooing them out of the beds. Tempted to leave on unplanted for them, but they are too stupid to just stay in the one.

Hubby got the farm truck running and checked the breaks. He leaves for "tree camp" tomorrow so nice he got that done before hand.

another windy rainy day here. Haven't gotten any eggs in 3 days so Jim be grateful for your one! The birds hve been locked up alll day and will be so until atleast Thursday. They're grounded. Wait til I tell their ma!!

I found 2 eggs in the run on Sunday, guess it was too nice out to go back in and use the nest box. That was only the second time I ever found an egg in the run. The first time I had tossed some scratch out there and the hen left the box to get her share and laid it on the go. I picked that one up while it was still warm...

Hens have slowed down in the egg department lately. Only getting around 5 or 6 eggs daily from 11 chickens; that is down from the normal 9-10 I got all winter. One of the hens has to go - all she lays are shell-less eggs and is really making a mess of the nest boxes.

They didn't seem to molt last fall, but they are starting to loose some feathers now. Spring molt - is that normal?

Afternoon all! I wasn't having any problems with eggs until today. Yesterday I blocked off the nest box area for the chicks and no eggs today. They'll regulate again.

Here is a picture from today.

One speckled sussex so far. Hoping it survives and some more hatch!!

Drainage trench project is almost done. Nathan got the extra pea gravel and got it into the trench and was able to get about half of the dirt back in.

Drainage trench project is almost done. Nathan got the extra pea gravel and got it into the trench and was able to get about half of the dirt back in.

I hope you covered the P gravel with landscape cloth or plastic. otherwise the dirt can erode down into the P gravel and plug it up..

Jim-we dug the ditch to help with drainage. We added pea gravel at the bottom, drain piping, a lot more gravel, then dirt. No cloth/fabric.

well I'm just about a month into being on first shift and I've done okay adjusting from third but some days I could sure use a nap after work. No one really understands unless they've done it. But I sure do like getting done at 2. Looking like Friday Saturday and Sunday are gonna be beautiful so the shed should be up and painted by the end of the weekend. Gonna finally do my toilet seat chicken door. That's enough to get me excited lol

I was just outside , not raining,,,,yet..

I worked every shift ever invented.
never liked any of them, lol
.when I went into my own business I worked all the shifts every day for some periods of time.

today I got the 2 discs mounted.
I didn't plan on getting them done. but the rain held off so I just kept poking along.
now it will be too wet for a couple of days to try them out.

DD Barby has hundreds of raspberry plants.. way too many for her yard. and today she told me she has too many strawberries.
I am not taking any raspberries, but I am thinking I might try about 50 strawberries.
Anybody close to me want any of either ? both ?

no eggs today, I had the dogs loose early. when I was making coffee this morning I saw both of them go into the coop..

there is a very good chance that Frankie is PG.
puppies should be due about June 15..
