Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I lived in Minn for awhile, never went to the mall of America. I am not a big fan of malls or shopping or even looking around

yesterday I planted 1/2 pounds of green bean seeds and 1/4 pounds of yellow beans seeds.

the corn is up about 2 inches.
the beets are coming up already in the box planter.
the potatoes are a few inches tall.

this morning i spent about 2 hours watering everything..
the sprayer didnt' work so great. I will change it to the other sprayer nozzle next time.

I let Frankie into the house. she enjoys the AC .. Zeke is content to lie under the apple tree..

Having trouble with this site again. My puter has fits here for whatever reason.
The weber is fired, and the sweet corn as well as the pork loin steaks cut extra thick are the plan in action for supper tonight.

Best Wishes to all...bigz

Wow, everyone must be busy with summer :D Here too. Working hard to finish the coop remodel/expansion but this heat is rough on us old folks. Mother nature is not going to stop us from having things done before the new arrivals are here (hopefully by Wednesday if the USPS doesn't screw up again).

Our gardens are doing well. Everything is up and the first plum toms are starting. This weather has everything ahead of schedule except some of the herbs and a couple of the squashes. They're not liking all this heat. Us either. Hope everyone is having a great weekend and staying safe!

We did similar except it was a rack of ribs. My laptop is lovin' the new site. My old desktop, not so much.

It's sure storming like a mother over here in the twin cities. Gonna spend the day around here again then head home. Weird how when your home you don't want to be but as soon as your gone it's all you want. We usually end up missing critters and leaving early. Back to the mall shortly for a bit then to bubba Gumps for lunch then home. Have a goood day everyone l!

The heat is a bear! We were busy all day yesterday building fences for the new dog run (I'm feeling a bit crispy today!). Once we get them moved I can use the hog panels we were using for their enclosure for the garden instead (trellises for beans/tomatoes/cukes).
DH and his dad were worried about the chickens in this awful heat sooooooo, they installed a window AC unit in the coop!
It's way more comfy in there now :ya
Found out yesterday there's a very good chance our land is a good bit farther over than we thought it was. The farmer renting the land has apparently been taking sharper corners every year for quite some time and has encroached on our land because of it.
Looks like a surveyor is in our future. If it turns out it is ours we will be planting our garden in that space next year (probably 25' x 150' ... it's a BIG space!)
Looking very seriously into getting rabbits by the fall. Since the chickens are in the shed (a 1 1/2 car detached garage on the far side of the property) I think I can put the rabbit hutches in there as well and have some meaties.
Also thinking about getting some meat chickens to grow out and put in the freezer.
My dad is not going to burn wood anymore since he's getting older and it's too hard for him, so he's selling us his outdoor wood burner. We will be moving that to our house in a few weeks and getting the wood we need from a plot my husband's co-worker has. He just wants the downed trees gone.
On top of all that, DH is building a new pole shed this summer...30x30...and we are doing it all ourselves. :th
I'm tired just thinking about everything we have to do yet, but it will get done one step at a time.
The kids want to be in 4-H next year too. I'm trying SO hard to put the idea in at least 1 of their heads that goats would be a great project ;). If I'm successful, I'll be getting my goats if I can find some Pygoras...then I can milk AND spin their coats! I'm such a devil sometimes! :lau
Of course, all of this hinges on being able to make it sustainable. But I have such a drive to be as self sufficient as possible, I can't see doing anything else.
Is anyone else here like that?
At any rate, everyone keep cool as much as you can today. Love seeing everyone's updates on what's going on in your world.
Take care,
jean

AC in the coop? Spoiled chickies!!!:love
potentially congrats on the new garden plot! I would however have the soil checked to see what that farmer was dumping on it.
Good luck with planting the goatie seed. ;)

Jean, I am exactly like that. I want to do meat chickens but my daughter will not allow it. She is only 10 and cries about that sort of thing. I hate to hire anyone to do anything.
My youngest is almost 11. She used to get upset at those things and recently went on a "I won't eat meat" bender :he I wasn't having it though. I told her we are a meat eating family and she'll be hungry if she only eats potatoes and corn...she ate steak for dinner last night:yesss: (backstory to that is I was a vegetarian for over a year...messed with my head a lot and I have to force myself to eat meat still sometimes... don't want her to be squeamish about food like I can get)
I told her we are going to get meat rabbits and she was a tad upset at first. I reminded her that because we will eat them we will have to keep breeding them and she will always have bunnies around! She liked that idea (I may have bribed her with a promise of a rabbi's foot in the color of her choice :p)
Now to just convince DH that we need to spend the $ to get started!
@chickisoup good point on having the soil tested. I hadn't thought of that. The farmer is growing corn and I know he sprays it with some chemicals)
Too hot to do anymore today. Think I'll relax in my ac for now, maybe come back out at dusk.
You all are awesome!
jean
