Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I couldn't watch the Pack any more.. I assume they lost.. it was 14 to 24 when I gave up on them..
yep, most roll recipes are very similar.
lots of people don't put eggs in theirs. and I like the extra sugar.. what I like the most is the heavier texture compared to the half baked rolls from the store.. those King Hawiians feel like raw dough to me..

Rotting in a hotel in Freeport IL. I was supposed to evaluate the sanitation practices of a facility starting early this morning but they pushed back the time twice; now I am going in at 6 tomorrow. Wish I would have known yesterday so I could have spent more time with my family......
This town is very sad...... at one time in the not so distant past they were thriving. Now it appears they are still in the recession. Everything is beautiful but rough around the edges.

We ended up with 8” of snow; my cousin has over 10” but she is closer to the lake too.

Hello all! I was wondering if anyone actually wrote down or can recall where the conversation took place (email, here, etc) for Cindy's green goop? I am getting really low and that stuff is GOLD! In the event anyone has contact with her, please connect me if you could. Thanks and I hope that you all are well.

We are getting SO CLOSE to getting this chicken watering system in! We've got our 250 feet of pipe, all of the chicken nipples (that we had to get off of ebay :( ), the pipe fittings, glue, tank, clamps...we have a few more things we have to snag as we think of exigencies---and we'll start the install today. Right now we're thawing the pressure washer in the bathtub so we can finalize spraying it out before we insulate the base and place it on the stand Jeff just finished making. Maybe we should do a build video.

How will you be able to keep the nipples from freezing kee? I know my carry water method is labor intensive, but checking on the birds a couple times a day is normal practice here. Winter creates a lot of extra work for sure here.

We have a 150gallon metal tank--it's actually a physical therapy water tank. Jeff is building an insulated box for it. Inside will be a pump, and a stock tank de-icer. It's a closed system, that will keep moving, and I'm hoping the de-icer will keep it at an adequate temperature. If we absolutely have to we'll wrap heated tape around the pipe on the end farthest away from the tank to encourage things to stay moving. The barn is partially insulated as well. We got the horizontal nipples so they won't freeze open like the vertical ones do. I'm definitely out there a lot anyway, but right now the water situation isn't actually working at all. The waterers we have keep dropping the bottoms out, or breaking, and they continually poo in the open rubber buckets we have on the ground. It's something like 20 gallons in and out several times a day for me right now. The thawing waterers are in the back hall, and I carry down five gallon buckets. It's not horrible, but it is avoidable. And I'm so excited for this.

Every two pens have a shut-off/bypass valve, and there's another pump bypass valve if we need to fill buckets from the tank or turn everything off and drain it in case the electricity goes out during the winter. There's even going to be a small run of pipe into the brooder room! We have eight small pens, 6x10 down one wall; and two larger ones that are 24x10, and the brooder room across the aisle.

I'm going to try to get a video up, and at least a blog post, and I'll share here when we get everything done!

coming home from town after 8PM last night I said to Annie, I am sure glad I don't have to do anything with chickens when we get home..
when we drove past one of those old folks high rises yesterday, I said, could you live in one of those ? she said, yes. I said, let's sell our house..
the tractor's transmission has ice in it.
I have a couple of those magnetic block heaters, but they don't put out enough heat to thaw anything.. too much cast iron..
I will have to dig out the electric heater and tarp again for another winter..
