Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Thats interesting, Ill have to remember that.

So I am looking up how to make a weasel box trap. Ill be darned if I did not see a little long brown, white chested varmit go right into my barn. Hope I still have some chickens in the morning. Ill never find it.

Make rectangle box, hole on 1 end, whole on other with screen for scent, and a rat trap in it. Tims weasel box trap production tomorrow. I have plenty scrap wood.

Good luck mountain man.

Chickens are hanging out in their "concrete coop" yesterday and probably most of today too. The coop is the room between the barn and the silo and is completely mad eof concrete. floor, walls and roof. Makes it hard to ventilate - it does OK - but is really nice on hot humid days like yesterday and today.

The 5 week old's really need a roost to play on. This batch of chicks likes treats - so I will need to get a weed feeder set up for them. It is just a piece of fencing that is attached to the wall along the bottom of the fencing. It will flop down for putting greens on it and then will swing up to hold the green flat against the wall. I put a hook into the wall at the top of the fencing to keep it "closed". I put weeds, grape vines, long field grass, whatever on the fencing and then they will nip and tear at the greens to eat them. Makes it easy for them to eat the grape leaves and such and makes it easy for me to remove the stems and such when they are done.

second day in a row, nothing getting done. tomorrow looks to be cooler.
It might be too early to be sure, but some of the shoots I am trying to root seem to be making leaves. elderberries, apple and plums.
I will take pictures when I feel more confident.
that concrete bunker sounds like it is cool for the chickens. If you can spray the outside walls and roof without it leaking into the inside, that would help cool it down .

Glad to see everyone is doing well after the storms last week and the heat the last few days. We had a great hatch this past weekend. We've still got a lot of chicks and keets that need to find a home if anyone is interested (located in Clark County). The chicks are Ameraucana (rooster) x Silver or Golden Laced Wyandottes (hens) and a couple from an Araucana hen (sadly no ear tufts this round). The keets appear to be Royal Purple or Slate. I'm not good at telling yet and our flock has about 8 varieties. DM for more info!

I have been busy today.
I potted a few grape roots that I jerked out of the ground a few days ago.
Annie found a bunch of grapes growing along the driveway. probably got planted by the birds or squirrels from the old grape arbor. catawba.
I mowed some of the brush away from along side of the grapes. I will have to remove some more heavy brush to open the grapes up more.
I think I will make a trellis for them.
I finally drained the gas tank on the tiller. am letting it set , hoping any residue moisture will evaporate.

How many birds aside keets to giveaway. Your north of me, but man the gas. My last hatch was crappy. Just killed a weasel which took 4 chicks from my hens that I gave them. Your by Neillsville I guess?

Planted last half acre sweet corn today, killed the weasel. Got lucky on the weasel. Was going to build a trap and think I still will. I cornered the weasel shot him.
The bunker sounds cool.
Rooting grapes is something I have always thought about trying, or rooting tree branches. Guess I need a grape plant with vines first.
Going around working on fence spiffing it up, getting tired of the fence. Cattle to pasture should be here in week or 2.

Oh and speaking of the bunker neighbor had something like you have. He used to raise pigs in his. It was pretty good size. He tore that all down and the Amish took apart the barn. Barn was in rough shape. He built new shed for beef cattle and raising pigs.

congrats on the weasel,
If you are going to try rooting fruit trees, look into air layering. I had some good luck with it. lots of tutorials on youtube. for me apples are the most difficult to root. I had good luck grafting an apple to root stock one time. the tree was growing nicely until one winter when i slid into it with my tractor and broke it off.
