The last couple of rainstorms have really given the corn a boost - I swear it has grown over a foot in height since the 4th of July.
My garden is overgrown by lambsquarters. Going to spread them out to dry as I weed to save for winter treats for the chickens. This new batch of chicks I have love green weeds. They will ignore the feeder if I have plant material in the run for them.

My first crop sweet corn planted may 15th really took off after the 4th, little over knee high to chest high. Starting to tassel now

They loved tearing it apart.
TOR, I don't have a garden, I do have grapes. they appreciate any kind of tlc they can get. This rain, and then hot weather is really making them go nuts
I have all the head bolts off of the motor. The head is stuck on hard. I suspect somebody uses some sort of sealant on it. I bought it brand new.
I can't believe the factory would do that.

corn near us is really taking off too. squash and pumpkin at our house is vining like crazy with the warmth and water, hopefully they don't rot out or some lovely animal come for a taste

@wyoDreamer never thought about saving weeds for a winter treat, how do you store them?

Do not see sealant on heads very often, but is used at times. Time for the rubber mallet. Been volunteering for the Treampleau County fair. I get paid and goes towards daughters show choir in school. Rained this morning, might be a hot sticky one at the fair today.
Wifes garden growing fast, been picking sugar snap peas.

Wife flowers are coming she is excited. holly hocks getting lots of flowers. will have lots of holly hock seeds anyone interested.

Squash, . I would put dirt on some of the joints where the leaves come out of the vine on the runs. The vine will root. I would cover quite a few places on the vine with dirt. Sometimes the vine borers are bad and cause separation by the base of plant and root. I have also taken a razor blade and slice at the base of plant and removed the borer, looks like a giant maggot. Do not know if you have vine borer problems.

Neighbor brought 4 cows and 3 little ones over, fixed the small leaks at the stock tank couple more little fix it jobs at tank, Have a corner in the fencing partially redone will finish after the fair ends. I have the fence restrung temporarily for now.8 inch post expensive, guess everything expensive. 10 acres grass on hill 3 feet tall at least should keep the cows occupied.

I have the rubber mallet standing by.
Up to now it has been raining off and on.
I am working on the lawn on the mower.
At four AM we had a nice thunder storm roll through. It rained pretty steady until after six
the grapes ate loving this rain/sun/rain we have been getting. One of the salvaged grape vines has way more shoots than it needs. For now I am letting them grow. I think I will cut some off and see if I can get them to root.

No rubber mallet needed. I found a hidden bolt behind the exhaust manifold. had to remove the manifold and then things went easy.
My first inkling was correct. The intake valve was hanging up. the guides were slightly out of alignment. I straightened them up and now things feel better and the valve is seating. I have to get some lapping compound tomorrow. clean everything up and put er back together.

Try some pb blaster or sea foam deep creep to get the bolts off. Or use prybars to get the seal off. They can be hard.

I'm up at four AM today.
I managed to get the head off. The problem was a hidden bolt that I missed. I went to O'Reilly's and bought a lapping tool and some lapping paste. the valves lapped very quickly and easily. I cleaned everything up and have the head back on, valves installed. All I need to do is torque the head bolts . Then I can start putting the rest of the lawn mower back together. I hope it runs .
A couple of the grape vines are growing nicely. I am keeping up training them along the wires.
We have a ton of baby rabbits all around the yard. they are so cute when they are little. too bad they grow up and become a nuisance.

Glad to hear your engine problem is solved. My part in the mail has been lost. I got a refund ordered new part from someone else. A new coil.

Wife is asking me every third day when it is going to be running. She has plans.

Put about 75 pounds nitrogen on second crop going to tassel earlier than I thought. I should rephrase that 75 pounds of 46 percent nitrogen so about 34 pounds nitrogen.

Will prolly fertilize 3rd crop early.

Still trying to time this side dressing and get it right.

think I am going to soil test after all is done.

TOR, frustrating to get held up like that. I hope your coil arrives today.
I have to check the coil clearance on my rototiller. AFTER I get this lawn mower running.. The tiller fires and pulls the rope out of my hand. let me tell you, that T handle hurts when it slips through my fingers.
I will reset the valve clearances , too.
Yesterday, I bought a new torque wrench. My old one would not click.
why do they bother stamping numbers on them ? I can't read them under any kind of light. I just set it at zero and then screw it to the setting I need.
