I went for 1 1/2 teaspoons per pound of shredded cabbage. that computes to
1 Tablespoon per 2 pounds and 2 Tbsp per

4 pounds. I don't like mine too salty.

That's good to know. In a year when I will more than likely get a new herd of chickens, I'll look for them and hopefully get chickens bred to the standards.
I could have spent alot more time there just talking/learning about all of this.

Depends on what you are looking for. I know a lot of the local breeders.

The breeder we use for silkies is in Green Valley, so that's probably well over an hour from you. On Facebook.

She has a variety of different kinds of chicks and hatching eggs, amongst rabbits, goats, etc.

If you are thinking of making a lot of money by selling top notch chickens, be prepared to spend a lot of money to get there.
and beware of people selling "breed" eggs.
even "breed" chickens.
If they even have them, they are not going to sell their best ones..
Be prepared to eat a lot of expensive chickens.

I cant tell the difference in a standard, show, hatchery chicken. They all look the same in the freezer........just kidding, but really I dont know the difference if I stood there and looked at them.

Getting eggs, have 6 new hens. lost 4 of 9 chicks I bought this early summer, predators I imagine. Really wanted the faverolle hens those 3 are among the missing. Lost 3 chicks from hen hatching eggs 1 predator and the other 2 I think the rooster.

Might have lost a hen or 2, lost count of them from last winter. I will have to ask wife.
Guess thats free ranging.

I sell silkie chicks because there is a market for them here, but only started doing that last year. I sold maybe only 100 chicks perhaps at avg price of $5 each, but it will never turn a profit. I just figure it pays for their feed and bedding pellets, but I'll be dead before I get a chance to have them pay for their coop. I do it because I am totally addicted to hatching chicks. I just love doing it.
