Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

thanks for the advice on the corn, I will keep it in mind,
yesterday I mixed up six buckets of potting soil for the tomatoes,. I got one raised bed moved into the sunny spot and had trouble with the second one,
today I will try plan B. they are too heavy to slide.
I carry them with the tractor bucket,.
I have only 3 left to move.

well, plan B worked, I got two more raised beds moved to the sunny spot,. one more to go.
it got too hot for us old folks to keep woking in the hot sun, I should get the last one moved today,
I am going to gamble that there will be no more frost and going to plant six tomatoes and four bell peppers,. we had a frost warning last night. in got down to 4oF, .
going to plant peas and beans today.

We're 50 miles east of Wausau and sure not seeing those "hot" temperatures. Today high was 74F. Our high on Monday and Thursday is supposed to be 79F though. Tonight appears to be the last of the lows in the 30s, too, as after that it's in the 40's and 50s.

Good morning, another Saturday is here,
Yesterday I planted peas and beans in raised beds
Put the 5 tomato plants in 5 gal buckets. left them in the garage over night. today I will set them out,
If it looks like frost I can quickly load them into the tractor bucket and put them into the garage,.
I have one more raised bed to move. and I saw a tub by the wood chip pile that I might resurect ,.
54F at 9AM , I hope it doesn't get much warmer too fast,.

It really is dry in the gardens here. Hope to get some stuff
planted before the rain forecast for Thursday. I need to till a second time to break things up more. Potatoes, onions, cabbage, broccoli, onions, and radish are on my get planted
first list. The rest can go in after the soil warms up more.

Good to read everyone is busy too. I'm so glad it's finally
nicer out and one can get some things accomplished.

Stay safe ... bigz

You folks and all your gardening would make me feel lazy, if we had not spent yesterday digging up the busted sewerage pipe.
Had to carefully remove the soil, and cut the Bottlebrush roots away, without busting the pipe.
Found where the roots had popped the inspection fitting.
Now everything is all clear we have to get the plumber in to fix it all.
Hope the rain holds off, even though we need it here on the West coast of Aust.

We got some sod for our chickens in breeding pens as they are new and just gravel. Hubby hauled a load of dirt from the city that's free, then we went to a place a half an hour away, Bear Creek, where sod was $3.60 roll. Rolls are 2' x 5'. Pens are 5' x 10' but wanted them to have dirt for scratching and dust bathing so 4' of dirt, and 6' of sod.

I've heard there are some places that put a mesh on the bottom of the sod, or plastic even. This didn't have anything but dirt and grass. Not sure if they do that for certain climates or something, maybe, but it's considered a hazard for chickens.

We had extra so fixed our yard in a few places where paths had been made by us, the dogs, or the chickens. The ducks in the Four Seasons pen got some too.

We wonder how long it'll last. Maybe a month? The nice thing is, at this price, we could just go get some more in a month or two.

Those look really nice! I want to build nice runs like that. I like how you used the wood base on buried brick: then you don't have to worry about burying the wire to keep predators out.

Thank you!

My hubby is an electrician, but a carpenter on the side. He did it all himself. I helped very little but he took all of my ideas, concerns, and wishes, and made them. The building is 12'x20' Amish shed.

Here's it framed on the inside for the four mini-coops inside.
