Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I have four raised beds (cement mixing tubs) planted
with peas, beans, squash, jalapeno peppers, bell peppers and a Thai basil.
five tomaotes in buckets.
I am hoping for no more frost.
I can load the tomatoe buckets into the tractor bucket and put them into the garage if I have to,
thinking about the best way to cover the raised beds.
my guineas used to roost in the big pine tree. perfect for the owl. to get them down I used to spray them with the hose. '

I found a tub that used to have strawberries in it.
that was years ago , and the berries didn't do well
I ran all the dirt through the cement mixer and got all the weeds knocked loose. then I sifted four 4gal pails of nice black dirt. I think I will plant beets in the tub.
I have to go down to the trees and get the 3pt cultivator, I rearange the tines and use it like a chisel plow,. then I rototill and will plant a few rows of corn. I have some serendipity seed corn,
medium ears, but very sweet and we like it for freezing creamy style corn.
I am going to park Ollie in the lean to for tonight. I want to get the car into the garage, who knows? the weather guy might be right about getting hail tonight. why take a chance?

Thank you!

My hubby is an electrician, but a carpenter on the side. He did it all himself. I helped very little but he took all of my ideas, concerns, and wishes, and made them. The building is 12'x20' Amish shed.

Here's it framed on the inside for the four mini-coops inside.

Here's the inside of one.

Doors are 90lb magnet on the inside, and a pair of 90lb magnet on the outside.
Oh, that’s super nice!

Lorelei has hatched 5 of the 7 eggs (as of last night)! Four Americana's, and one…Naked Neck! If it’s a pullet, we’re going to keep her, name her Lily. Lorelei is a good mama, teaching her babies to scratch and peck. Moving them into a larger brooder once the other two eggs hatch. Thanks everyone for your help!

How did you like the storms ?
It was not bad here. four hours of tornado warnings. there were some cells all around us,
we didn't get much wind or rain. the blossoms are still on the apple tree.
I moved Ollie out of the garage and put him in the lean to behind the garage so Annie could put her car into the garage. I was worried about hail.
the tomatoes have doubled in size already. I moved them under the overhang on the garage.
yesterday I planted 7 dozen beet seeds in the last tub/raised bed, I had no intentions of planting anything but 4 tomatoes this year,.
I have 5 tomatoes. 9 jalapeno peppers. 4 bell peppers. peas, beans, beets , 4 squash and one
Thai basil. all in raised beds.
I found out that basil is an excellent companion plant for most veggies. I am going to plant a couple of seeds in each tub. they are supposed to repel some bugs like mites.

We didn't have any damage. I got home from work about 5 and got the birds in their huts. I was kind of thinking they may be safer hiding on their own in the tree lines instead of being in their huts. Wasn't bad by us, heavy rain and some wind and hail. About 5 miles south got hit, business' got damaged and a small farm is now gone. Such a shame. Nobody is hurt, that I know of, which is good.

I am not sure why that area has been getting hit so much the past 5 years.

Sooooo wife going to work early still dark. COuld hear a chicken behind the house. She said sounded like it was running. ( prolly was ) Last night 7 decided to return maybe better be inside than in the trees? Tonight have 11 I think in. Didnt count them, but had 12.
We fixed up the metal cage for dog we bought last year for 10 bucks and cat proofed it and got 9 chicks today. (looks like the metal cage in picture but bigger) Farm Fleet had a tub full of easter eggers, I will go back sunday or monday see if they have any left discounted. Otherwise may hatch a few, not sure yet.
3 red leghorn, 3 austrolorps, 3 easter eggers.

Never had red leghorn, austrolorps are good egg layer, im impressed with the easter egger been good egg layer.
Not alot of variety. Some orphingtons and wynadottes, few meat birds.
Glad to hear no one had damage from storms. Sure looked like some people got it though, unfortunatley. Looked like some of those storms fired above me on radar. I wanted some rain, dry here. Windy today watching the topsoil blow off the fields.

Planted second field sweet corn, bout acre field corn 7 to 8 inch spacing. I guess population 20000. 2 year old round up ready seed see what happens with it.
Serrendipity good sweet corn, grown it before. SE/SH2
My potatoes are up time to plant some of the garden.
Trying solstice this year small test field, last year I did a extra tender274. That was good corn.
The crookham seed I plant is sh2i improved. bigger seed now, more endosperm more cold tolerant . better size for planter plate. See how this works out in second field cooler temps now for the week. Hope it does not rot.
Hope it rains.

I've been praying for rain here too! It is really dry and
not natural for no rain this time of year. The storms were
all thunder and lightning and no rain drops ..... dang.
Looks like I'll be hauling water and using sprinkler cans
to coax some sprouting.
Good Luck with all the new peeps everyone is enjoying.
Glad the hens came home Tor!

Stay Safe ... bigz
