Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Wow, I really like that! Did you design this yourself, or use a plan?

We have the five chicks Lorelei hatched, plus 4 new girls coming in two weeks. Then a few Chocolate/Lavender Orf chicks in mid-July. I’ve been wondering where to keep them all before integrating them with the flock.
We bought the trailer and just needed to close the openings and add the roost and chicken door. We left all the lights on so we can use it as a small animal trailer if needed.

The big coop behind is the OG coop. We built a prefab shed on top of a hay wagon running gear.

I am all done planting in the raised tubs,.
yesterday I planted 16 Ozark Beauty strawberries, they are tiny runners from last year, after I watered them and the sun shined on them for an hour, they stood right up and spread their tiny leaves,. I take that as a good sign.
I retrieved a couple of tines for the 3pt drag, have to go back there with gloves on because they are nestled in some blackberry vines.
peas are 3" tall, beets are just poking out of the ground and no beans yet.
can't put off staking the tomatoes much longer.
today should be a good day for the bees to pollenate the apples,

I broke down and covered plants ,.
I don't want to take any chances since they are so nice and big. I really don't want to replant them.
It was 35at 5am, now more towards sunrise, the temp is going down, 34F at 6am,.
It took only ten minutes to cover them.
one of the strawberries has a blossom on it, only two days after planting,. hardly any leaves though.
the peas are getting leaves. no sign of beans yet.

The corn is up about 3" in the farm field next to us. Ours, not even planted yet. We'll get to it this week though.

We are cutting way back just because neither of us maintain it that well, no time. Corn and kale is it for the garden, then we'll do a few tomatoes and green peppers in pots on the deck. Going to try the tomatoes away from the garden as we get blight every single year despite all the tricks to avoid it/prevent it. Even disease-resistant tomatoes get it here, just not as bad as the non-disease-resistant ones.

Our corn is not growing well in our garden. It has a lot of chlorosis.
That's odd you get so much tomato blight! I can't recall it ever happening to ours!
More like, tomatoes are a blight on my life because my dad always plants too many...

I had a little blight last year. this year I am using all new dirt in the buckets. dispite the leaves drying up, I still got good tomatoes,.
I bought a packet of bean seeds. the ones I planted seem to be duds.
I bought new locking nuts and bolts for the tines on the cultivator, F/F price went up over 4ocents/lb since the last time I bought some.
today I will be using the "golden" bolts to mount the tines on the cultivator.
I hope the rain holds off.

Come on nice weather, you need to show your face!
Right now, we have 49f and that's just not good enough.
I'm still holding off on planting any squash seeds. They hate cold ground and will fail for sure.
I suppose the wild turkeys are happy season is over too.

I've had good success with the blight issue by placing cardboard all around the
mater plants on the ground, to keep any contact of the leaves
with the ground. I place enough dirt on the cardboard to keep it in place from the wind. We need a good 3 or 4 bushel harvest for canning and freezing.

Stay Safe ... bigz

It'll be here soon enough, looks like a couple days away.
Hope my chickens like it.
In march/april and beginning of may my 11 hens were laying 7-10 eggs a day. Last week when it got colder 4-7 and the same so far this week.
I did change out the bedding in the coop and till the run so everything was nice and clean/new.
Can't imagine that making a difference.
I will also say the I'll never get Americanas again. WORST layers ever and small eggs.

except for corn, i am done planting.
i had to replant beets and beans, . had old seeds.
I got enough tines on the cultivator to try working up the old garden plot. haven't used it for a lot of years. some blackberries have crept in along the edge. I will push them back with the tractor bucket. I am not planting corn right up to the edge. I plan to work up the soil all the way around the corn and plant a cover crop like wheat or buckwheat.
