Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hello!

It feels a little strange jumping into an ongoing conversation, but I thought I'd introduce myself as a BYC newbie.

I'm in western Wisconsin near La Crosse and have a flock of 5 hens and 9 chicks at the moment (my first ever batch, hatched by broodies from eggs from a friend's huge egg flock). I've had chickens since 2022 but still consider myself a pretty inexperienced poultry owner. They're always surprising me with something!
Welcome, I'm not all that far from you, North of Richland Center. Enjoy the fun.

Hatching those chicks was so addictive that I'm already trying to figure out how I can squeeze more birds into my space or get a second coop!

Where we live is semi-rural, we have 1.5 acres and neighbors but not right on top of us. There is someone else in the neighborhood with a rooster that I hear pretty often, so I'm hoping to be able to get away with keeping one of the boys from my recent hatch!
Welcome I am north la crosse

There are 8 Whiting True Blues (unsexed), two Barred Rocks, and 4 Silver Laced Wyandottes. I am down to 16 chickens, and since the majority are six, time to add more to the group.

The Lav Orpington Roo that remains in my flock is going to the chopping block. He is such an idiot, he is not even breeding the hens. Hoping I have a few Roos with this group of chicks…. And they are not idiots.
Did you get extra roosters Whiting true blue?

I don't think it was me. But last spring I did purchase two Americanas that we're supposed to lay blue eggs and they do, but damn few.
And these are pure bred Americanas, I know, because I had a fill out of form with my address to even buy them.
I'd trade them for 2 australorps in a heartbeat
No found it, im short a rooster ,but no hurry to get 1, think I have a fox Around now.

a friend of mine had Americanas/ he gave me 70 eggs to hatch for him/ most of the eggs hatched and 80 percent were pullets. then he told me that he really didn't want them and I could keep them.
I sold some, and traded some and gave a few to friends.
I still do not have my corn planted. I think I will give it up for this year.
I have to clean the carb on the tiller today.
it runs if I put gas directly into the cylinder. so, we have spark,.

I got the tiller running. now I have to figure out a throttle control. had one. long story, it doesn't have one any more.
raining right now, again.
not good for mowing lawn. very good for the raised beds. I am glad I have plenty of drainage holes in the containers.
the tomatoes are just about ready to be tied up again. they are climbing up the "optimistic poles",
the poles are 5ft tall. I hope the tomatoes make it to the top.

I tied up the tomatoes again. they are about 30" tall.
I trimmed off a bunch of the lower branches that were too close to the soil.
I got the rototiller all fixed. but at 86F, I am not about to use it.
stay cool and safe. this heat shall pass,. then you will have plenty of weeds to pull.
