Can I ask what the neighbors complaints are?Hi! New here, but looking for support to legalize ducks in Caledonia Wisconsin. We are in the county of Racine but currently live in a subdivision within the village of Caledonia. One of my neighbors complained about my ducks, people creeped my back yard and i had to rehome them. I like to think i am a decent neighbor. I do not host wild parties, i do not light off fireworks at all times during the summer (or even winter as some in my neighborhood), i do not play loud music until well passed the time the village ordinances prohibit as some of my neighbors do, etc. and for the record the ladies i had were all trained to coop up at night and locked in safe and sound at dusk, not to be let out until late after daybreak thanks to my overnight working schedule. i just want to be able to have ducks so i can bring my girls back home and allow others to have ducks without fear of losing them due to a petty neighborly dispute.
I have only a vague idea how to go about this. Can someone help me petition the village to allow ducks?
Please PM me so we can exchange info. Thank you!!!
Eli
I do not know what the complaints are, i was only sent a letter by the village telling me that ducks are illegal and i have to get rid of mine. 2 days before i left the countryCan I ask what the neighbors complaints are?
How many ducks?
How are they housed?
Just trying to get an idea of what you have. I do have 6 ducks (5 female - 1 male).
We live in the country, and have two female ducks. I can attest that even two here, free-ranging over two acres, are still quite loud compared to the 30-60 chickens out there.Well....with having ducks in the country and have lived in the city/small town for many years- I can say I probably wouldn't want ducks in my neighborhood either. They are TOTOALLY different than having a few chickens. And having that many females...they can be loud during the day for sure. JMO
Now to get your city/town to agree you will need to go to a city meeting and pitch WHY having ducks is appropriate in town (lot size)- how many you are allowed (chickens are usually 3-4) and a plan with rules. You have to basically sell the city/township on why having ducks is "ok".
I am not in town. Just a subdivision where i have neighbors but are not close to them. Maybe that’s what people call “town” but to me “town” is smaller plots than we have. I am on 1/3 acre and the coop and ducks were well away from the property line. In fact, i have video recordings of the neighbors pool being louder than my ducks. Yes, girls can be chatty but they really only got loud when they saw us (caught a vole or two) and we have been careful to take precautions for negatives. We live in the country, and have two female ducks. But still, unless they're near the house and under an open window, they aren't that bad. In town, I could understand it being a pain as they'd be close most of the time.
Well, I had hoped if nothing else, maybe someone in this thread lived near you. Otherwise, there's this older thread where throughout it some folks had some good ideas. The forum that's in you could peruse and maybe find others. The OP of this thread ended up moving so they could have chickens.I am not in town. And for those of us who are sensitive to chicken eggs, and Ned to avoid the problems with roosters, ducks are a reasonable alternative to raise and have. I am just looking for help or advice to help me petition my village to allow ducks as well as chickens.
