Didn't get a chance yesterday to say Happy Vet's Day to any of the other Vet Cheddarheads out there. So HAPPY VET'S DAY!!! Be Proud! Congrats BCC on the honor roll! You can tell people your DD got it from your side. That'll make em smile in agreement. Oh come on it's just a joke! I had a thought the other day [no I really did]with winter eventually showing up and was wondering what happens to a egg when it freezes. Being that I'm a rookie my thought is that it will at least crack being a liquid. Any test to check them if their nearly frozen? And will affect the quality? I'd put one in the freezer but I just can't part with even one of those golden orbs. I collect in the AM before work and as soon as I get home but worry about the -20 times. Sorry to bring that up. This will be my last year to have to worry about it. My supervisor shall I say nicely "upset me" on 3 different occasions today with his stupidity and it pushed me to look at the calendar in my tool box. Today marks 200 more calendar days till no more stupid unless it's self inflicted. 200 but who's countin? Spagetti tonight with L's home made sauce!

if they freeze they will crack, of course, but if they are close you will get humidity on the outside and if you hold they they feel real cold (like an ice cube) and heavy, if you catch them before they fully freeze they are a little more watery than normal, if frozen baking with them is no problem, some people like frozen egg, you can still use them. I pick up eggs in the afternoon the only ones that freeze are the ones on the floor (unless they are missed and left overnight

Evening to all....Congrats on the great student Buck Creek, I know you are proud, and should be!

On occasion, if I collect a frozen egg, I thaw and fry it up for the hens. Once you have a crack in the outside shell, one doesn't want to risk the chance of some bacteria, for human consumption, however it's fine for the girls to enjoy.

Hopefully, it won't get extremely cold this winter.

I think the pack is in for a tuff game with the boys this week-end.

Congrats Buck Creek! It's nice to have a smart kid and get to brag about it. I went to conferences today and my 1st grader is also an exceptional student. I was told she always listens and is polite and then I asked if they had the right kid?

I also wondered about the frozen egg thing? Thanks for asking, now I know. This is also my first winter. Dr HaHa thats not fair. I want to only have 200 days left

I'm so jealous!
Tried to talk DH into getting a pair of Frizzles off of CL tomorrow since he's going up that way but he told me I had to get rid of some before I add any. That wont be happening. Even though I should sell some of the roosters, I have a hard time thinking of parting with them and also fear that they will be eaten.

It's hard to raise them from chicks to be healthy and happy only to cull them or ship them off. I didn't think I would love them as much as I do. Oh well I'm sure I'll figure it out.
Hope everyone has a wonderful night.

Have a new list to accomplish this weekend, it's not too long but at the bottom is make wood so it's long. Had a new experience today. Bob, my cat left a mouse present by the back door this AM when I got home and let the girls out, Goldie [chicken]snapped it up and ran off with it trying to tear it up. I know that they'll kill and eat mice but it was a first and for some reason felt compelled to share. Let me explain about Bob. He didn't get his name just because he's a cat he's part Manx. Tail is about an 1 1/2" from birth and twitches in a most humorous way. What was I to name him Stuby? I picked him out of a litter of 3 others that had similar traights. But he was special. Black and white with a goatee like Maynerd G Krebs. His hind legs are longer than his front which are bowed. He walks like a bulldog, it's hecklarious.

He's pushing 13 yrs old and still a BA mouser. He has 4 short tailed weasels under his belt and too many mice to count. But the one still eludes him is a red squirrel. I think it keeps him young. He used to go out every night even at -20 but for the last 2 years he prefers to share my pillow and covers and my arm around him and purr himself to sleep. He's my boy! I've thought about his demise and have entertained the ideas about having him stuffed or even better a hat. I've had cats all my life but I know this one can never be equaled. Have great weekend!

Sorry to clog up the site with my banal thoughts but when I saw that beckyschicks had feinting goats. Wait, just got her newest post [dialup] I'm sorry but you must pay your dues, It's your turn. And believe me I'm sorry! Please don't cry! Enjoy your journey! You have a lot to smile about! My humor can go deep. He He He! Anyway back my story. It's twisted so try and stay with me. My girlfriend, Laura's daughter has a boyfriend that has a son named Dominic who freezes up and drops over like one of your goats when things don't go like he wants. I was told about him doing this before hand but almost peed myself when I saw it happen. None of the people had ever heard to my amazement of feinting goats until L saw it on the tube later. She said your right it's just like Dom! He's improving thankfully.
